The Black Ops 7 Collection

The whole reason why SRII Advent Calendar became a thing, to count the days before the launch of this game, the one to carry the torch for future warfare after years of Boots on the Ground, WWII-to-Modern Era games... I heavily anticipated Black Ops 7 the moment I heard they were making original weapons for the game.

To be alive to witness these jetpack era weapons returning is a blessing. To be able to do the honors of implementing these weapons, even more so. To have had the opportunity to have them in H3VR before the full game even released... Words do not describe the luck I've had to be able to pull it off... But it wasn't all luck. It was me sinking in dark arts and having connections with people equally verse in such, including my twin brother who was a huge help whenever unreal engine was involved.

Although, in the end, it was all saved thanks to a fellow weeb way more talented than I. ACoolRocket, the fellow who made the models of the M3X-17 and the Yoko Littner Rifle, some of my earliest weapon implementations for this game, comes through with providing these Black Ops 7 assets straight from greyhound. At a time when we were concerned the Babylon Library of COD Assets wouldn't come back, he came through to provide for the time being.

Thank you for that, ACoolRocket. For everyone who wants to see what he does, check him out on YouTube, his name holds true he makes cool shit!

Background

BO7 is controversial to say the least. A wacky campaign, a cloned multiplayer / zombies, marketed ai slop, a plethora of negatives surrounding what is without a doubt a positive... The weapon roster. I am happy to say they delivered in that department.

I did put them under extreme scrutiny at first. Why called the Cordite the Carbon 57? Why does the M8A1 look like a tan Holger? Why didn't you give the AK the KN prefix? A lot of ridicule on my part being a hyperfan of these weapons, but deep down I knew I wanted nothing but the best for this series and these criticisms come from a place of love and admiration.

Should they drop the ball here, they could turn around and never look back at sci-fi as a venue for their future titles ever again, and that is a nightmare I would never want to live through.

But I'll give it to them, these weapons are phenomenal in their own ways, and some weapons truly sell that sci-fi aspect without pulling too far away from the grounded look that I adored BO4 for. I spent hours with every weapon, prestiging them at least once, going for mastery camos and making sure I get the best understanding, and it never felt like a chore doing so. I had fun playing with my COD buddies or grinding solo in Skirmish, I feel rejuvenated in playing this game as it feels like a cross of all that came before, in all the right ways.

So when I hit that mastery, and saw I was prestige master with all weapons prestiged, it was a somber feeling to come back to this... But I know it must be done.

So lets get it done.

BO7 Weapons and H3VR, The History

You were able to demo these weapons in the SRII Advent Calendar, Origins Mystery Boxes spread between the main map and a zombified, ready to detonate Promeatheus. Now, with ACoolRocket's support in providing direct asset rips, alloy textures have been redone so that the look of these guns match that quality of the Space Race featured weapons.

Yeah, before that, the methods I got these weapons were... Happenstance. See, the majority of these guns come from GMOD modder named Stefano, who ported them solely as... Props. Not actual weapons, props. A 1+ gig modpack for weapons you cannot use, it doesn't make sense to me but then again, I'm not a part of the GMOD community so I am not sure what merits props have on that game to begin with.

The first five BO7 weapons that came on the launch day of the SRII advent calendar... Those were rips of the Pavlov modpack that so happened to have BO7 weapons added alongside it. That pack, those weapons were usable and had their iconic sounds, too. Kudos to the modder BIGNUT (lol) for taking the first steps in porting these guns to VR.

For these weapons to make it during the second Space Race, I ripped them myself from these fellows' modpacks, then did what needed to be done to make them work for H3VR. I made the deadline... But more work had to be done.

BO7 featured a Green Screen map in Private Matches and I made sure to record that in-game audio, save it, move it to YT, export it from YT, then splice the audio to individual chunks. Alongside that, spending hours generating proper alloy textures with the right files from ACoolRocket was another task accomplished.

With their sounds and their textures finalized, we have BO7 weapons in H3VR to match the quality of the weapons that came before... And how did it turn out?

BO7 Weapons and H3VR, Their Compatibility

The envelope wasn't pushed too hard with the initial roster. The run of the mill arsenal of rifles and pistol caliber firearms, not a lot of exotics to consider. But for those that did have funky features, there was nothing to be nervous about.

You will find the gimmicks to still be present, but their operations simplified greatly to make it feel less of a hassle to use.

Say the Dravec for example, with its rotating magwell housing, there is no button to operate it, it will just happen naturally on empty. Treat that like a Bizon and you'll be fine.

The MK78 running on Chutefeed tech, there is no belt link to pull on the other side, no extra mechanics to be concerned about. Just push that sleeve into place and you'll be able to chamber and fire.

Over the course of several years, there's this constant feeling that if I didn't port it one-to-one with the source material I shouldn't port it at all. This is the feeling that prevented me from tackling other weapons sooner. I've learned the other, counteracting force in learning these ways of tooling exotic weapons, that complicating a weapon too much can be disasterous for the end user. It ends up as a balancing act, trying new techniques without straying too far from the controls an H3VR user is used to.

With BO7 weapons, I'm riding in the middle of that line, trying to imitate the gameplay of the gun without making it too complicated, so whats ported to this game is what I could make the most sense of.

Submachine Guns -- Graz 45k (now called the Ryden 45k), Razor 9mm, Peacekeeper SMG, Dravec, Carbon 57*, MPC25*, RK9*, Kodot 7*

Assault/Battle Rifles -- M8A1, M15 Mod 0, MXR-17, AK27*, X9 Maverick*, DS20 Mirage*

Aiming for Early 2026 with all the other weapons. Sooner rather than later!

Aiming for 90% accomplishment rate like the other COD games I've ported from, and it feels weird having what I need to accomplish that while the game is still in-season. I'm so used to having to find a source for these guns or their sounds, finding the models for a game no longer in season... It's different this time, I'm set with everything I need! I won't be taking this good fortune for granted, I'll do my best!
