Sharing Music via Configs

This guide will explain how sharing music via configs works and how you can utilize it.

What and Why?

With mod-managers like R2Modman you can share files regardless of their file type in your configs (if you share your modpack with a code/file). This works for mp3 and other audio formats too, so instead of having to create a whole new music mod-pack, why not share them directly via configs?

Prerequisites

Before you start, ensure you have the following:

  • A mod-manager for lethal company (otherwise this whole method makes no sense)
  • Basic knowledge of handling files and folders on your computer.
  • Your music files in MP3, WAV, or OGG format.
  • Permission from the creator to share their music (do NOT just violate copyright)

Step 1: Find this mod's configs

If you use a mod-manager like R2Modman, go the "Config editor" tab, scroll until you see "CustomBoomboxFix.cfg". Open it.
If you want to edit it on your file explorer, go to your BepInEx\config folder located in your game files and search for "CustomBoomboxFix.cfg". Open it.

If your config file is not there, start the game, join a lobby once, and quit. Repeat the steps above.

Step 2: Enable configs

In the config file there should be two options, by default, the first one is active and the second config is false. You need to change the second one to "true"! If you did, the mod will now use music from a config\Custom Songs folder. **This folder most likely isn't there yet and will be created after one game launch! **

The first one lets the mod work like it did so far, using the plugins\Custom Songs folder for music and allowing music mod-packs that are installed to add music. You can disable this if you want, then no custom music from standard music mod-packs will be loaded. \

Step 3: Add music

Add music to the config\Custom Songs folder.
IMPORTANT: If you are using R2Modman and plan to share your mod-pack via code, make sure that your songs stay under the 20MB limit (this is roughly 3-5 songs, depending on quality). Otherwise, you will have to share via file (which has no size limit). Sharing via file works the same as sharing via code, but the file will be similar in size to all your songs (many songs = large file).

Step 4: Share the code/file

For R2Modman you need go to Settings>Profile and "Export profile as code" or "Export profile as file". If you are done, share the code/file with your friends. They can Import/Update as usual and everyone should be set.

Notes

  • If you want to switch back to the old version, you can disable the second config and enable the first, or simply delete the config file. Make sure you remove the songs in the config files, so future mod-pack share doesn't get disrupted by the file limit or else!
  • Boombox music might not be synced due to how Boomboxes work, you can use Boombox Sync Fix to fix this
