One Hand Needed – Rework

⚠️ IMPORTANT: THIS IS A REWORK OF A DEPRECATED MOD CONCEPT

This mod is a modern rework of the original OneHandNeeded idea, which has been used for a long time in the Lethal Company community in different forms.

It is heavily inspired by and conceptually equivalent to
HandsNotFull
https://thunderstore.io/c/lethal-company/p/Swaggies/HandsNotFull/

That mod is:

  • Marked as deprecated
  • Still functional
  • Widely used
  • Not considered a cheat

This rework exists to:

  • Update the logic for current game versions
  • Fix stability issues
  • Clarify behavior and limitations
  • Preserve the original QoL intent

What this mod does

In vanilla Lethal Company:

  • Picking up a two-handed item sets the Hands Full state
  • This blocks normal inventory flow and interactions

This mod:

  • Forces the game to treat two-handed items as effectively one-handed
  • Allows smoother inventory management
  • Adds a configurable safety limit

Configuration

MaxTwoHandedItems

  • 0 → Unlimited
Two-handed items never cause Hands Full
  • N → You may carry up to N two-handed items
If you exceed this number, vanilla behavior applies

What this mod does NOT do

  • ❌ Does NOT bypass server authority
  • ❌ Does NOT change item stats
  • ❌ Does NOT enable impossible actions
  • ❌ Does NOT affect living enemies

Living enemies are intentionally excluded and always require both hands, exactly like vanilla.

Client-side behavior (IMPORTANT)

This mod is client-side only.

What this means:

  • ✅ It can work even if the host does not have the mod
  • ⚠️ The server may still override certain actions
  • ⚠️ Rare visual or interaction desyncs may occur
  • ⚠️ Behavior may differ depending on host, latency, or version

This is expected for client-side QoL mods.

For the most stable experience, the host should also install the mod.

Is this a cheat?

No.

This mod:

  • Is purely Quality of Life
  • Follows the same philosophy as HandsNotFull
  • Does not exploit server-side logic
  • Does not give exclusive or competitive advantages

The referenced mod (HandsNotFull) has:

  • Been publicly available
  • Seen wide community use
  • Never been classified as a cheat

This project simply modernizes and stabilizes that behavior.

Why this rework exists

The original implementations were marked as deprecated because:

  • They were not updated for newer versions
  • They relied on fragile hooks
  • They could cause errors or crashes

This rework:

  • Fixes Harmony patching issues
  • Adds proper null-safety
  • Clarifies configuration semantics
  • Improves multiplayer robustness
  • Keeps the original intent intact

Disclaimer

  • This mod may not behave perfectly in all multiplayer scenarios
  • Client-side mods can never guarantee full consistency
  • Use at your own discretion in public lobbies
