The Fall of 51-Shadominas

51-Shadominas, a barren moon transformed into a quarantine facility, orbits a desert planet where all biological life is unable to survive. The station was designed to contain extraterrestrial artifacts and anomalies too dangerous to be stored on an inhabited planet.

Among the most enigmatic relics in its collection was the White Mask, an artifact as fascinating as it was terrifying. The Mask, pristine and blindingly white, changed its shape depending on its mood: a grotesque grin evoking comedy, or a sorrowful frown embodying tragedy. Yet, beneath its still appearance lurked a malevolent entity. Records mentioned eerie chuckles echoing through the chamber when anyone approached, as if the Mask mocked those who dared observe it.

The Incident: The story begins with a researcher, whose curiosity far exceeded the strict protocols of 51-Shadominas. This scientist, isolated in the monotony of life on the desolate moon, became obsessively drawn to studying the White Mask.

Legends surrounding the artifact suggested it granted its wearer pure vision of reality and complete understanding of the cosmos—at the price of their soul. Despite strict prohibitions and repeated warnings from colleagues, the researcher became consumed by the idea of testing the Mask, convinced he could withstand its influence.

One night, during a brief disruption in the security systems caused by a solar storm, he manually deactivated the seals protecting the Mask and placed it on his face.

The Possession: The contact with the White Mask was immediate and irreversible. The moment it touched his face, an icy chill enveloped him, followed by deep, mocking chuckles resonating directly in his mind. The artifact seemed to toy with him, alternating between tragedy and comedy with each laugh, slowly breaking his will.

Soon, his consciousness was crushed, replaced by the entity inhabiting the Mask. The researcher, now possessed, became a puppet. But he was not to remain alone. A new purpose was born within him. The entity used its influence to manipulate other members of the station. Those captured or exposed to the Mask's energy were transformed into Masqued Ones, humanoid figures frozen in grotesque poses resembling the two faces of the White Mask: comedy and tragedy.

The Masqued Ones, once human, were now incapable of independent thought, entirely devoted to the Mask's will. A single glance from them plunged others into confusion and terror.

The Moon Out of Control: Chaos spread quickly. Communications systems were cut, and entire sections of the station fell under the Masqued Ones’ control. The facility became a theater of desolation, where the entity's cruel laughter echoed through the halls.

Despite desperate attempts to contain the situation, the surviving personnel had no choice but to activate the final quarantine protocol. All exits from 51-Shadominas were sealed. The facility became an eternal prison for the Mask and its servants, completely cut off from the outside universe.

The Masqued Ones: The "echoes" described by survivors were replaced by legends of the Masqued Ones, white figures with fixed grins or agonized grimaces, roaming the desolate halls of Shadominas. They patrol the station, guided by a single will: to protect the Mask and ensure no one approaches it, while also preventing anyone from escaping this floating nightmare.

Consequences:

51-Shadominas, once a symbol of mastery over the inexplicable, is now a silent tomb. Orbital drones continuously monitor the moon, ensuring that no suspicious activity spreads beyond its confines.

As for the White Mask, it remains at the heart of the station, its mocking laughter echoing through the vast emptiness of Shadominas. Some say the comedic smile hides an ever-growing threat, while the tragic frown is only a prelude to what awaits anyone foolish enough to attempt its liberation.
