History

The Curse of 95-Gextradus

95-Gextradus was a minor moon, isolated in the far reaches of the galaxy. With its rocky mountains covered in thick snow and its near-permanent blizzards, this hostile moon was not a place anyone ventured for pleasure. Yet, beneath its icy mantle, it hid priceless treasures: veins of luminescent crystals, a rare mineral capable of powering numerous installations thanks to its gargantuan energy potential.

For a decade, the mining station of Gextradus-9 operated without interruption. A bubble of artificial heat and light, protected from the deadly winds, housed the 2,000 workers and researchers who lived inside. Everything was fine until inexplicable events began occurring in the deep tunnels.

The First Incident

A team of miners vanished without a trace while exploring a new tunnel. Sensor readings showed that their thermal suits had stopped transmitting at 300 meters below the surface. A search team was sent to investigate, but they found only abandoned equipment and strange marks on the walls: scratches of impossible precision and symmetry.

Soon after, rumors began to circulate among the workers. Some claimed to have heard noises in the tunnels – a metallic clicking, like legs skittering over rock. Others reported seeing shadows moving at the edge of their vision.

The Evacuation of 95-Gextradus

Chaos erupted when the "Great Collapse" occurred. A massive explosion shook the station, causing several main tunnels to cave in and leaving parts of the colony without power. The surface storms made any escape impossible, and the shelter was becoming increasingly unsafe.

The biologists on-site identified the miners' scourge: at extreme depths, beneath the ice and rock, an ancient life form had been disturbed by the mining activities. These creatures – massive arachnids – had clawed their way to the station. Their articulated legs were strong enough to carve through rock, and their chitinous exoskeletons rendered them impervious to traditional weapons. They were named "Theraphosa-ficedula," shortened to "Bunker spider."

Faced with the imminent threat, the authorities decided to evacuate the colony. Workers were crammed into shuttles, but the blizzard made the operations slow and perilous. Some never made it to the ships. Those who survived recounted how the spiders attacked in packs, slipping through the smallest cracks.

A Dead Moon

Today, 95-Gextradus is a dead moon. No one dares approach it, and the evacuated ships still recount the traumas of the shattered colony. Records left behind occasionally show fragments of these creatures devouring their victims in the darkness, leaving corpses strewn in the abandoned tunnels.

For those who know the story, one lesson remains: some riches are best left buried underground.
