Three Fairies of Light is an avant-garde/design challenge character mod aimed to provide high variance gameplay while retaining fairy-like whimsy, with experimental design and complex underlying systems. Fairies are currently in beta, already been playtested for a fair bit, and should be perfectly playable, but due to the nature of the mod there might be some edge cases. If something breaks, let me know.
Known limitation: setting Game Hints to Detailed breaks the perk UI. Set them to Short or Disabled.
Key concepts
Positioning.
Fairies are a 3-in-1 character. Mechanically, they share the same health/buffs/debuffs. So, in a way, it's a single character with complex visuals. However, each fairy has to occupy a distinct position (Front/Middle/Back), resulting in 6 possible formations total. This affects what cards can do, sometimes drastically. Switching positions at the right time allows fairies to pull off devastating combos. Additionally, both starting exhibits allow you to change the starting formation by clicking on them out of combat. This is not crucial: you can swap the starting exhibit if you really want to, but it helps.
Perks.
Each fairy has two perks: Passive perk and Momentum perk. Perks are unlocked by having a corresponding card in your deck. Each starter deck begins with two perks unlocked and enabled, with the rest of them being basics. When out of combat, click on a special Perk exhibit to view and change them. While in combat, you can examine the active perks by mouseovering the fairies. You can change the active perks anytime when out of combat, meaning you can adapt to your deck changes and upcoming fights. Don't forget to enable your new perks! Passive perks are usually tied to positioning. For example, A-side begins with a starter Sunny passive perk "on entering Front, gain 3 Temporary Firepower". Momentum perks are triggered by spending Momentum. More on that in the next part...
Momentum.
Momentum ties together positioning and perks. It's both a resource and an action. Current Momentum is represented beneath the active fairy by a yellow bar, starting at 0, and replenishing to 2 whenever any positions change. While you have Momentum, any cards with a Momentum action in them will spend 1 to perform a Momentum of a front fairy. For example, B-side begins with a starter Luna momentum perk "Gain 6 Barrier." If you move Luna to the Front and play a card with Momentum (e.g. starter Lunar Shield), Luna will spend 1 Momentum and gain 6 Barrier. Once Momentum depletes, you'll need to move the fairies around again (not necessarily Luna). The goal of Momentums is to reward movement-heavy playstyles. With that being said, there's enough support for less APM-heavy builds, with some perks rewarding sitting in a single position instead. Basic momentums are intended to be very weak. You really don't want to use Momentum for them.
Design Notes
Both sides are flexible, each beginning with 6 mana (WWUURR), but having the first card cost 1 more to compensate. This allows for high build variety. A-side is easier to play due to reliable spellcard and exhibit letting you draft better. B-side is more proactive.
Neutrals have a lower occurrence rate to make drafting character-specific strategies more reliable.
B-side's spellcard is special. It tries to intelligently assess the situation and provide good cards. If you've played Hearthstone, it's akin to Zephrys. Using it best might require practice. I've tried to note down the key rules in-game.
If you enable my other character mod, Yuuka, there will be some cross-mod integration. It's a minor aspect: don't feel pressured into doing so. I might add some cross-mod content for other mods, too.
