Runic Skýla
An alternative to wards, Skýla are protective magical runestones, offering configurable protective capabilities.
However, this protection is not immediate - once activated, Skýla draw in energies from the aether, slowly growing in power, their protective capabilities developing with time until fully charged.
The gods are cautious of the flow of energy from the aether, and so each Viking is permitted only to protect a certain total amount of land with their Skýla - whether many small areas, or a few large, or a mixture in between.
Protections
The powerful magic of a Skýla protects the land around it, and its contents from molestation. The owner of a Skýla can adjust the protective powers each of their Skyla provides to the surrounding area, ensuring that their property and land remains unmolested, whilst allowing guests and visitors accorded uses.
Vehicles
Vehicles such as boats and carts built by the Owner or Vinir are also protected by the Skýla. However, vehicles brought by the public can be used unimpeded.
Vinir (Friends)
Friends of the owner may use the land and its contents unrestricted. Vinir can make themselves known to the Skýla by interacting with it whilst its magical barrier is disabled.
