ClearSightCamera

See your Viking. See your builds. Stop fighting the camera.

Valheim’s third-person camera loves your walls and roofs a little too much. The moment you tuck into a cozy hall or tight corridor, the game shoves the camera into your character’s back or hides half the screen behind log beams and stone arches.

ClearSightCamera fixes that.

Think of the smooth “smart cameras” you see in modern action RPGs and MMOs:
when the camera swings behind a wall, the game gently fades it out or hides it so you stay in focus.

That’s what this mod does for Valheim.

What the mod actually does (in normal human terms)

When you play:

  • The camera looks at the space between your eyes and the camera.
  • If a wall, roof, or big piece of build spam is blocking the view:
    • It either hides those pieces, or
    • Makes them see-through, depending on your settings.
  • Once they’re no longer in the way, they pop back to normal.

Nothing gets deleted.
Nothing about your build is changed permanently.
You just… see what you’re doing a bit better.

Why you might want this

1. Tight bases feel playable again

Spiral staircases, cramped mountain outposts, tiny starter huts — places that normally feel claustrophobic suddenly feel comfortable.

You still get the cozy “Viking cabin” vibe, just without the “camera stuck in a log” part.

2. Fights around structures feel clearer

When you’re dodging trolls around your walls or kiting mobs through your base, the camera no longer slams itself into a random support beam.
You stay visible, enemies stay visible, and you can actually read the fight.

3. Optional “no-clip” camera for the zoom addicts

Want the camera to stay a bit further back without getting shoved forward by every rock and fence?
There’s an optional mode that keeps camera collision only for the ground, so you can:

  • Pull the camera back farther than vanilla allows.
  • Stay zoomed out even in messy builds.
  • Still avoid clipping under the terrain or drowning the camera in water.

Two visual styles to choose from

You can pick how the mod treats occluding pieces:

🌫️ Transparent Mode (immersive & pretty)

  • Pieces turn hazy/see-through instead of vanishing.
  • You still get a sense of the room, walls, and shelter, but you can clearly see your Viking and what you’re doing.
  • Perfect if you like modern ARPG-style camera behavior.

🧱 Hidden Mode (simple & clean)

  • Pieces that block the view between the camera and your character are temporarily hidden.
  • Great if you want a crisp view with nothing in the way at all.
  • Once they’re no longer in the way, they instantly reappear exactly as they were.

You can switch between these modes in the config.

Controls (default)

All keys are configurable in the mod’s config file. Defaults:

  • Toggle camera culling (hiding / transparency): F7
Turn it on or off whenever you like.

  • Toggle camera no-clip (optional extended zoom): F8

    • Off: camera behaves mostly like vanilla, but with smart occluder handling.
    • On: camera ignores walls and pieces, only respecting terrain — great for screenshots and wide views.

What this mod doesn’t do

  • It does not delete, damage, or modify your builds.

It only touches how the camera sees your own surroundings between you and the camera. Where possible.

Think of it as Valheim’s camera finally acting like games where the character, not the wall, is the star of the show.

Configuration (non-technical overview)

In the config file, you can tweak things like:

  • Whether culling is enabled by default.
  • Whether occluders become Hidden or Transparent.
  • How see-through transparent pieces should be.
  • How wide the “clear path” between camera and character should be.
  • How far the no-clip camera is allowed to zoom out.

You don’t need to touch any of this if you don’t want to.
The defaults are meant to “just work” for most players.

Compatibility & performance

  • Designed to work with your existing builds and mods.
It doesn’t rebuild structures, doesn’t change pieces, and doesn’t demand any special building workflow.
  • Only runs when you’re actually in control of the character (not in menus, not in free-fly).
  • Uses lightweight logic focused on the space between the camera and your character, not the whole world.

If something ever looks odd with a very unusual or modded piece, you can just toggle the mod off with one key and keep playing.

TL;DR

If you’ve ever thought:

“I love my base, but I hate how the camera behaves inside it.”

then ClearSightCamera is for you.

  • Cleaner view of your Viking.
  • Smarter camera behavior around your builds.
  • Optional see-through walls and extended zoom.
  • No permanent changes, just a camera that respects you more than your log walls.

Install it, walk into your favorite base, spin the camera around, and enjoy finally being able to see what you’ve built.
