Survivors - Commando
Updated 2 days agoCommando
Commando has some pretty good skills, and some really bad ones. In particular, both of his specials are rarely much better than just holding down left click, especially when item synergies come into play. Commando's good skills are going to remain untouched, while his less-used ones are going to receive hefty buffs.
Default Secondary | Phase Round (buff)
- Base damage is increased from 300% to 500% (causes damage per pierce to increase from 120% to 200%).
- Projectile velocity increased by 60%.
- Projectile hitbox size is increased by 70%.
- Knockback against enemies is doubled.
Comments: Phase Round, despite being meant for crowd control, succeeds at neither the "crowd" nor the "control". These changes aim at making it more reliable at group damage and disruption. Even still I found it still to be incredibly underperforming, so it now deals significantly more damage as well.
Default Utility | Tactical Dive (buff)
- You are now invincible during the skill's duration.
- Rolling now properly works in multiple directions, and can scale with sprint speed if already sprinting.
Comments: Tactical Dive really needs a niche over Tactical Slide, and I don't really know why the mechanics from Risk of Rain 1 were never carried over. While it is still somewhat inferior in terms of mobility, Dive can now be used to dodge otherwise unavoidable attacks and stay alive in the midst of battle.
Default Special | Suppressive Fire (buff)
- Cooldown is reduced from 9s to 6s.
- Bullet count increased from 6 to 8 and fire rate increased accordingly.
- Damage per bullet increased from 100% to 150%.
- Skill duration reduced from 1s to 0.7s (greatly reduced end lag).
Comments: A lower cooldown means you can stun enemies more frequently, and the fire rate and damage buffs means that it's actually worth using for damage purposes. Overall, this makes Suppressive Fire a lot more available mid-combat and helps Commando easily lock down single targets.
Alternate Special | Frag Grenade (buff)
- Renamed from Frag Grenade to Magnetic Grenade.
- Sticks to enemies on hit (not terrain, you can still bounce it off the ground).
- Skill duration reduced from 0.5s to 0.4s (slightly reduced end lag).
Comments: Frag Grenade is extremely difficult to get good use out of, especially in the late game. The goal of this rework is to keep some of the skill based gameplay through bouncing it into a crowd, while also enabling it to hit airborne targets and deal full damage to moving ones once it sticks.
