Most of False Son's skills are actually pretty balanced right now. However, the reason why he's still a broken survivor is thanks to Lunar Ruin and Lunar Tampering, two completely overtuned effects.
Base Character (buff)
- Base acceleration increased from 50 to 80, to match most other survivors in the game.
Comments:
Acceleration is a completely hidden stat, and thus feels really weird whenever it is messed with.
Default Passive | Lunar Tampering (nerf)
- Max health required for growth increased from 15 (+5) to 40 (+8).
- Health regeneration per expended spike reduced from 2.5 to 1.5.
Comments:
The only real nerf here is the health regeneration, which was just too much for a survivor at base, especially when it can be tripled by Meridian's Will. The adjsutment to growth is to compensate for health boosting items like Bison Steak being far stronger in this mod, and this change doesn't even effect late-game scaling that much.
Default Primary | Club of the Forsaken (nerf)
- Uncharged damage decreased from 450% to 380%.
Comments:
False Son's primary activating bands on its own feels a bit weird to me, and it's not like False Son particularly needs the extra damage.
Default Secondary | Lunar Spikes (nerf)
- Lunar Ruin duration increased from 5s to 6s, but no longer resets duration with subsequent stacks.
- Lunar ruin damage bonus is now logarithmic with stacks. This makes each additional stack grant slightly less damage.
- (Indirect) Lunar Ruin no longer counts as 2 debuffs for Death Mark.
Comments:
Lunar Ruin is a source of infinitely scaling damage and is way too easy to build up. It's honestly where most of False Son's broken-ness comes from, so it's being nerfed into the ground.
Alternate Secondary | Lunar Stakes (tweak)
- Now fires the projectile at the beginning of the animation instead of at the end.
- Skill duration increased from 0.5 to 0.75.
- Cooldown reduced from 11s to 9s.
- Lunar Ruin duration increased from 5s to 6s, but no longer resets duration with subsequent stacks.
- Lunar ruin damage bonus is now logarithmic with stacks. This makes each additional stack grant slightly less damage.
- (Indirect) Lunar Ruin no longer counts as 2 debuffs for Death Mark.
Comments:
Lunar Stakes, while perfectly serviceable, feels kinda awkward to use. A big reason why is because it fires its projectile at the end of the skill rather than at the beginning, so I'm swapping that around and then increasing the skill duration so that it feels more hefty. It's also getting a cooldown reduction to not rely on using your special attack quite as much. Aside from that, it's also getting the same Lunar Ruin nerfs as the default secondary.
Default Utility | Step of the Brothers (buff)
- Proc coefficient increased from 0.5 to 1.
Comments:
Just a minor tweak to make this skill more meaningful.
Alternate Utility | Meridian's Will (nerf)
- Buff duration no longer scales with Growth.
- Damage radius reduced from 25m to 15m, now matching the pull radius.
- (Indirect) No longer counts as a combat skill for Red Whip/Warbanner synergy.
Comments:
This skill is perfectly fine, I just don't like its ability to grant full buff uptime.
Default Special | Laser of the Father (buff)
- Base laser duration reduced from 4s to 3s. In exchange, attack rate increased from 8/sec to 10/sec, and damage per tick increased from 175% to 180%.
- Overall dps at full charge increased from 1400% to 1800%.
- Proc coefficient increased from 0.45 to 0.6.
- Charge time reduced from 2s to 1.5s.
- Now properly scales with attack speed.
- Minimum charge level increased from 0.175 to 0.25 (further increases uncharged dps from 315% to 450%).
- Secondary recharges in eighth-second increments, allowing passive skill recharge to contribute to the restocks.
Comments:
Laser of the Father just feels terrible to use in so many ways, on top of being completely outclassed by Laser Burst. It has had some serious buffs, in general compacting its damage into a shorter window with slightly less charge time, refilling stocks of your secondary more consistently, and having a better proc coefficient.
Alternate Special | Laser Burst (nerf)
- Cooldown increased from 8s to 10s.
- Number of lunar spikes refilled caps at 4.
Comments:
Laser Burst is more valuable than Laser of the Father due to letting you cycle your skills faster. It gets more stocks through growth, refills your secondary instantly, and does a massive chunk of damage to groups of enemies. With Laser of the Father having a 15 second cooldown that doesn't start until the attack ends, Laser Burst needs to have a longer cooldown to match, and also needs to be capped in how many lunar spikes it can refill. Now, once it starts gaining additional stocks of its own, it will also stop scaling the secondary stocks that it refills.
