Tobirama Senju — Second Hokage

Bring the Second Hokage to Risk of Rain 2 with a connected three-hit taijutsu combo, a surging Water Dragon, two-charge Flying Raijin, a sustained Tandem Paper Bomb barrage, and tactical Shadow Clone crossfire. Includes English and Japanese voice options.

Shadow Clone Relay — 0.16.2

Establish a second casting position, teleport to a flank, and attack from both sides. Your stationary shadow clone performs Water Dragon hand signs with you and launches its own dragon toward the same aim point. It fights enemies within taijutsu reach without leaving its position, and immediately prioritizes your Water Dragon. It appears and disappears in a full-body smoke puff, wearing Tobirama’s normal appearance. Both casters use newly adapted source hand-seal motion.

  • Place: select clear, reasonably flat terrain within 20 m. Invalid placement costs no stock or cooldown.
  • Relay: the clone lasts 14 seconds and mirrors each released Water Dragon for 70% damage. It can cast repeatedly, and terrain still blocks its attacks.
  • Recharge: 18 seconds from successful deployment. One clone per player; a valid early redeployment replaces it.

The current taijutsu, Water Dragon, Flying Raijin, Tandem, wall-running, selection voices and movement improvements remain intact. Clone casting is a new tactical option, not autonomous companion AI.

AI was used extensively throughout this mod's development, including programming, animation and rigging workflows, effects integration, debugging, test tooling, and documentation. Human direction, asset selection, playtesting, and iteration shaped the final result. The purchased character model is credited separately below; this disclosure does not describe it as AI-generated.

Abilities

Slot Ability Default behavior
Primary Taijutsu Combo Hold Primary to chain a diagonal blade-hand slash, right sweeping kick, and left jumping spin kick for 330% / 480% / 720% damage. Each strike hits each eligible enemy in front once. Works on the ground and in the air.
Secondary Water Style: Water Dragon Jutsu Launch an aimed dragon that bursts for 1800% damage in a 7.5 m radius. 7-second cooldown.
Utility Flying Raijin Two charges. Throw three kunai in rapid succession. The first two each deal 800% damage; the third is a teleport anchor. 9-second recharge per charge.
Extra skill Shadow Clone Relay Place one stationary clone within 20 m for 14 seconds. Fights nearby enemies for 70% taijutsu damage, prioritizing mirrored Water Dragons at 70% damage. 18-second recharge from deployment.
Special Tandem Tag Explosion Aim at a valid surface within 30 m. Multiplying paper tags produce 21 damaging pulses, 0.3 seconds apart, across 6 seconds from first explosion to last. Approximately 445.71% per pulse / 9360% total potential damage, with an 11.25 m horizontal radius and a tall blast volume. 28-second cooldown.

Damage percentages scale from character damage before enemy defenses. Tandem's total requires a target to remain inside the barrage for every pulse; its decorative finale adds no separate damage. Defaults can be changed through configuration. Existing skill recharge timing is unchanged; Shadow Clone Relay starts recharging on successful deployment.

Shadow Clone controls

Shadow Clone uses Extra Skill Slots → First Extra Skill, with X as the default for a new/missing keyboard binding. Existing bindings are preserved: if that slot is already mapped, change it to X in the game’s control settings. Controller bindings use the same remappable extra skill. The HUD shows stock and cooldown. The extra skill uses the supplied Shadow Clone artwork, cropped to fill its square.

The clone has no health, blocking collider, aggro or navigation. It does not copy Tandem or Flying Raijin, and is not a teleport anchor. Successful player casts produce at most one mirrored dragon; interrupted windups produce none. Clone expiration stops future releases but does not erase dragons already launched. Owner death removes the clone.

Clone melee uses your existing strike timing, reach and forward coverage, with 231% / 336% / 504% damage at default tuning and 0.7 proc coefficient per enemy per strike. It uses your current damage, attack speed and critical chance; it adds no inventory copy or autonomous movement. Water Dragon windup cancels pending melee contacts, then local fighting resumes.

At base attack speed and the unchanged seven-second Water Dragon recharge, two prompt casts fit in the clone’s lifetime. Items or legitimate skill resets can permit more. Each mirrored dragon uses the player’s captured damage and critical result, with 0.7× the normal Water Dragon proc coefficient. This deliberately adds on-hit opportunities; it does not recursively trigger the relay.

Flying Raijin controls

  • Press Utility to throw the burst. The anchor automatically teleports you when it hits an enemy or terrain, if a safe arrival position is available.
  • Release Utility, then press it again while the anchor is airborne to teleport early. This recast costs no additional charge.
  • After the teleport resolves, another fresh press can spend the second charge. Holding the button does not spend both charges automatically.
  • An anchor is consumed after one teleport. Invalid destinations fail safely; an expired anchor does not teleport you to an arbitrary point.

Charges replenish one at a time. The voice declaration plays on a successful teleport, while the throw uses a short whoosh. Rapid consecutive teleports can share a voice line to avoid overlapping speech; both gameplay actions still occur.

Movement and voice options

Ordinary movement uses the ninja-run motion at a slower cadence; the game's rebindable Sprint input activates the existing full-speed sprint. Gameplay movement speeds are unchanged. Hold the rebindable Jump input while moving into a wall to attach. Keep Jump held and release movement to stand on the wall; press movement again to traverse. Release Jump or deliberately move backward to detach. A successful Flying Raijin teleport also releases attachment. Additional-jump flips respect the jumps available from the game and items. Tobirama takes 50% less fall damage, without changing gravity or ordinary incoming damage.

Choose either outfit in the loadout:

  • 2nd Hokage - English Voice
  • 2nd Hokage - Japanese Voice

Both use the same model, appearance, and ability icons. They select different voice sets; shared nonverbal effects remain the same. A short language-specific selection line plays once when you choose Tobirama; changing loadout or skin does not replay it.

Installation

Install TobiramaSenju with r2modman or Thunderstore Mod Manager and allow its listed dependencies to install. Start the game modded and select Tobirama Senju. Extra Skill Slots and its Scrollable Lobby UI dependency are required and installed by the mod manager. Young Sasuke is not required; Tobirama uses its own plugin, assets, and configuration.

For manual installation, install the dependencies from manifest.json, then copy plugins/TobiramaSenju into the chosen profile's BepInEx/plugins folder. Keep TobiramaSenju.dll and its entire Assets folder together.

Upgrading from a private candidate: close the game and move the previous Tobirama plugin folder outside BepInEx/plugins before installing. Keep only one enabled copy of TobiramaSenju.dll. Back up BepInEx/config/henry.TobiramaSenju.cfg. The former default kunai coefficient of 4 is migrated once to 8. Other custom coefficients and unrelated settings are preserved. See CONFIGURATION.md for the exact migration and retained settings.

The configuration file is created after the first launch. Restart after changing it. Voice, preparation, and shared sound-effect levels have separate controls in its Audio section. In-game skill descriptions use the loaded damage settings.

Tested build and current limitations

  • Relay verification focuses on deployment, repeat casting, paired projectile damage, Flying Raijin crossfire, expiry and cleanup. See the candidate verification notes for exact executed checks and remaining limits.
  • Tested in solo-host play on Risk of Rain 2 1.5.0. Independent host/client multiplayer has not been verified. The plugin requires matching mod versions for multiplayer; that requirement is not a claim of multiplayer certification.
  • Character-mounted item display models are disabled for Tobirama. Inventory, item stats, effects, equipment, and HUD feedback remain functional.
  • Melee is directional and range-limited. A moving enemy—or the gap between a large enemy's separate hurtboxes—can fall outside the final kick's short forward contact volume.
  • In-place locomotion can still show foot sliding on slopes or abrupt turns. Compatibility with every mod combination and extended item-heavy performance have not been established.

For useful bug reports, include the mod/game versions, difficulty, character level, items, whether you were hosting or joining, and a short reproduction or clip. For missed attacks, note attack speed and movement speed separately.

Credits and asset provenance

  • SummerForce — Blender character model, purchased/sourced on 3DExport. The model was adapted and optimized for this survivor while preserving its likeness and proportions.
  • Project direction and playtesting: the mod's creator, through repeated art direction, asset selection, and in-game feedback.
  • AI-assisted development: OpenAI Codex was used extensively for implementation, animation tooling and iteration, integration, debugging, testing support, and documentation.
  • Modding tools and infrastructure: BepInEx, R2API, the Risk of Rain 2 modding community, and lessons carried forward from the Young Sasuke project and ArcPh1r3's Henry Tutorial framework.
  • Animation source and Water Dragon geometry: Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4, developed by CyberConnect2 and published by Bandai Namco. Selected Tobirama motion was extracted, retargeted, mirrored where needed, and assembled for this survivor. Water Dragon casting uses the recovered 1secskl2_s motion, retargeted to the purchased rig and timed to the existing release; its airborne version retains the established airborne legs. The selection stance adapts the verified ready idle (1secnut0), rather than claiming an exact selection-intro import. Ordinary movement reuses the existing sprint with slower playback. Airborne casting includes adaptations. The original purchased character model remains in use; the Storm 4 character mesh is not substituted.
  • Clone smoke: adapted from this project’s Young Neji Substitution smoke implementation. Its existing nonverbal substitution puff was reused in a separate Tobirama sound bank; no Neji gameplay or voice logic is included. No unverified Shadow Clone declaration was added.
  • Voice recordings, preparation/kunai sounds, ability artwork, and portrait: supplied Naruto material, edited or cropped for integration; rights remain with their respective owners. No replacement speech was synthesized.

This is an unofficial fan mod, unaffiliated with the creators or publishers of Naruto or Risk of Rain 2. Third-party models, artwork, audio, and game assets belong to their respective owners.
