ReinforcedBots
Trained neural-network brains for the robots in the 'reienfored bots' pallet: humanoids, a robot dog, a 700 kg walker, a crab and a flying drone that balance and move on their own physics.Reinforced Bots
The code mod that brings the robots in the reienfored bots pallet to life.
Each robot in the pallet is a real physics body: rigid parts on motorised joints, with nothing animated and nothing scripted to move it. This mod gives each one a trained brain - a small neural network that learned to balance and move that exact body by reinforcement learning - and runs it while the robot is spawned. Without this mod the robots spawn and just fall over.
You need both: this mod, and the reienfored bots pallet (the spawnables themselves).
The robots
| Spawnable | What it is | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Atlas | Hydraulic humanoid | Stands, walks about near where it was spawned |
| Advanced Atlas | Detailed humanoid, 1.8 m | Walks, idles, catches itself when shoved |
| Smart Advanced Atlas | Advanced Atlas with a squad brain | Three or more that meet vote a leader, patrol in formation, and answer gunshots by scattering or attacking |
| Unitree G1 | Humanoid that learned by copying a person | Human-style walk and idle |
| Spot | Robot dog | Walks, trots, handles rough ground, gets itself back up |
| Izhevsk Walker | Cow-sized four-legged robot, 700 kg | Walks, trots, climbs, gets itself back up |
| BullCrab | Big four-legged crab | Wanders; chases you if it sees you |
| Heavy Drone | Four-thruster drone | Really flies - held up only by its thrusters - from point to point |
Robots that cannot get up by themselves yet are stood back on their feet after a few seconds on the floor.
Smart Advanced Atlas
Spawn three or more near each other. Robots within about 7 ft of each other can "talk"; a group of three or more
votes for a squad leader (a tie means a revote), then patrols behind it. A gunshot the leader can hear makes it give
one of two orders: scatter (everyone splits up, then regroups at a rally point) or attack (everyone closes on
the shooter). They plan their routes on the level's navigation mesh, or map the floor themselves where there is none.
What they say to each other is printed in the MelonLoader console as [Alyx] lines.
Settings
UserData/MelonPreferences.cfg, section [ReinforcedBots]:
AtlasSpeed- how fast the Atlas and Advanced Atlas walk between spots, in m/s (0 = stand in place)ShowPlans- draw each Smart Advanced Atlas's planned route as a line
Installing
Use a mod manager, or drop Mods/ReinforcedBots.dll into your BONELAB Mods folder. Requires MelonLoader and BoneLib.
Notes
- The brains were trained at 50 physics steps a second; BONELAB runs its physics faster, so balance can be a little worse in game than it was in training.
- The robots ignore loose props when they look at the ground ahead, so they can trip over clutter.
- Not networked: in a Fusion lobby each player sees their own robots.
