The so-called 'Chicago Typewriter' had been a wildly popular and widely exported piece of technology during the 1920s-1930s. This was in spite of the fact that it cost 2-3 times more than the average typewriter. In addition, spelling mistakes were difficult to correct, as it would require the user to cross out mispelled words, thereby expending more ammunition than was needed.
