FishEffects
Every edible creature grants a predictable good, bad, or deeply questionable effect based on its species and cooking state.Fish Effects
Fish Effects gives every edible creature a predictable timed effect based on its species and current cooking state. It works with normal eating and Feed Friends, but does not require Feed Friends.
The mod does not replace the game's normal food, poison, or fire behavior. It adds distinct temporary abilities and drawbacks that are shown in the native inspection card and vitals HUD.
Effects
- Regeneration: restores 2 health every 2 seconds, without consuming fullness.
- Agility: increases walking and sprinting speed by 15%.
- Fast Bite: advances valid catch progress 25% faster.
- Resistance: reduces incoming damage by 20%, with a minimum of 1 damage.
- Slowness: reduces walking and sprinting speed by 20%.
- Luck: hooked creatures roll their weight twice and keep the better result.
Eating the same effect again refreshes its duration without increasing its strength. Different timed effects can remain active together.
Species
| Effect | Species |
|---|---|
| Regeneration | Angel fish, bluegill, clownfish, goldfish, parrotfish, seahorse, superdwarf fish |
| Agility | Flying fish, needlefish, piranha, tigerfish, tuna; cooked yellow boxfish |
| Fast Bite | Anglerfish, Bing Bong, eel, Gammelgäddan, goby, red snapper; cooked stonefish |
| Resistance | Bass, belodontichthys truncatus, blue shark, bowhead whale, catfish, giant piranha, goblin shark, halibut, lobster, oarfish, rock crab, spider crab, sunfish; cooked pufferfish and sea urchin |
| Slowness | Cooked blobfish, bowlfish, Dripper, rotten shrimp, and voxelfish |
| Luck | Any Drip variant, in addition to its normal species effect |
Unknown creatures added by other mods receive Fast Bite, keeping the system usable without a hardcoded entry for every possible species.
Cooking
- Raw positive effects last 20 seconds for Regeneration, 25 seconds for Resistance, and 30 seconds for Agility or Fast Bite.
- Cooked positive effects last 40 seconds for Regeneration, 50 seconds for Resistance, and 60 seconds for Agility or Fast Bite.
- Raw pufferfish, sea urchin, stonefish, and yellow boxfish apply the game's native Poison effect.
- Raw indigestible creatures apply Poison; cooked ones apply Slowness for 30 seconds.
- Food cooked beyond 125% applies only the game's native Fire effect.
Press F while holding a creature to see its current effect in the native inspection card. The effect name matches its HUD indicator color, and the text updates as its cookness changes while held.
Luck lasts 60 seconds. Its second weight roll uses the game's active generator and keeps the better result, so Fish Effects does not hardcode weight limits and remains compatible with mods that change the range or distribution.
Installation
Install with Thunderstore Mod Manager, or copy ArceDev.FishEffects.dll into BepInEx/plugins/ for a manual BepInEx installation.
Requirements
- How to Fish
- BepInExPack 5.4.2305
- Native Status UI 0.2.0
Multiplayer
The host applies Regeneration, Fast Bite, Resistance, Luck, Poison, and Fire authoritatively. Agility and Slowness modify the affected player's local movement controller.
For complete multiplayer behavior and HUD indicators, the host and every affected player should install both Fish Effects and Native Status UI. Fish Effects also works when another player feeds the food through Feed Friends; effects are always applied to the recipient.
Roadmap
- More fun and unique effects.
