Better Islands

Three of How to Fish's five islands, rebuilt by hand.

Not retextures and not clutter passes - new terrain, new coastlines, new layouts, with the real game running on top: NPCs that talk and trade, shops with working price tags, the boat waiting at the dock, creatures spawning where they should. Install it, sail out, and the islands you know are somewhere else entirely.

The islands

• Better Island 1 - the starting island rebuilt from the sand up, and it carries its own day-night sky: sunsets, a galaxy at night, a moon over the water.
• Beach (island 2) - built by Ayinz (ayinz__ on Discord).
• Better Island 3 (island 3) - shops, stands and all. Also built by Ayinz.

Islands 4 and 5 are still the game's own, for now.

What you get

• Real islands, not decoration. Every shop sells, every NPC talks, creatures spawn. The loader wires the genuine game systems into each custom island.
• They replace, they don't add. A custom island stands in for one of the five - travel, the island map, unlocks and co-op all carry on exactly as the game expects.
• Nothing to configure. Install and play. Each map says which island it belongs to and the loader does the rest.
• Nothing permanent. Remove the pack and the shipped islands are back. Your save is never touched.

Install

With a mod manager (easiest): install this - the CustomIslands Loader comes with it automatically as a dependency. Press Start modded and sail.

By hand: install the CustomIslands Loader first, then drop the files from this zip's HTFMaps folder into BepInEx/plugins/HTFMaps/. Each island is a .bundle and a .json that travel together.

Co-op

Everyone in the lobby needs the same maps installed. A player without them sees the original island and ends up standing in different scenery than the rest of the crew.

Skies

Better Island 1 brings its own day and night. Running Living Skies? Its full cycle - sunsets, storms, rain and lightning - takes over on every island in the pack.

Made an island?

This pack grows. Build one with the CustomIslands Mapmaker Kit, and if it is good it can ship here with your name on it - that is exactly how islands 2 and 3 arrived. Post it in the Discord.

Heads up

These are fresh releases and will not be perfect. Custom islands touch a lot of the game, so there will be bugs nobody has found yet. Report anything odd and it gets fixed.
