TheEavesdropper
Dormant sound hunter with paired echo scans, persistent agitation, committed leaps and repellent reactions. All players install. The Eavesdropper
An indoor sound-hunting enemy for Lethal Company. Quiet corridors become dangerous when your crew keeps talking.
Early playtest release. Every player must install the same version.
The encounter
The Eavesdropper rests curled up until audible activity wakes it. Voices, footsteps and noisy equipment provide leads. It investigates remembered sound locations and performs paired echolocation scans after reaching them.
- Throat rattle: stop moving and find solid cover before the two chirps. Exposed movement can reveal you; repeated clear scans can identify stationary players.
- Three dry clicks: it is listening for a speaker. Another teammate can draw its attention.
- Pursuit: it follows the latest reliable detected position. Silent changes of direction can lose it; new speech or running can redirect it.
- Agitation: repeated disturbances make it faster and more aggressive. Angry specimens can immediately pursue clear speech or running.
- Doors: it can shove open ordinary unlocked doors along its route. Locked doors and solid cover remain obstacles.
- Repellents: horns, blowdryers and dropped bells can provoke a retreat, but increase agitation.
The creature uses voice activity only. It does not record, save, transcribe or imitate speech.
Installation
Install with Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman. Required dependencies are installed through the package manifest:
For manual installation, install the dependencies first, then merge this archive's BepInEx folder into the game directory. Keep eavesdropper-visual beside Eavesdropper.dll; it contains the required model, animation and texture data.
If upgrading from a manually installed build, remove the old duplicate Eavesdropper.dll before installing through a mod manager. Preserve BepInEx/config/jeepg.eavesdropper.cfg to retain your settings. Blender and Unity Editor are not required to play.
Controls and configuration
| Key | Function |
|---|---|
| F6 | Searchable in-game configuration screen |
| F7 | Behavior, hearing and navigation diagnostics |
| F8 | Host-only test spawn, when explicitly enabled in configuration |
The host controls gameplay settings. Hunting and echolocation text banners are removed; the creature communicates through its audio and animations. Configuration is generated on first launch; existing saved values override defaults. Spawn rarity changes require a restart.
CompactPursuitSpeed defaults to 6.5 m/s and controls folded pursuit speed, capped by the current rush speed. Sharp turns still slow the creature down. Hearing, agitation, attack damage, warnings, movement and spawn rarity are configurable.
Release status
Built against the inspected Lethal Company v81 dependencies. Version 0.6.2 passed compilation and 71 deterministic logic tests. Mesh integrity and exported animation deformation were checked offline. These checks do not constitute an in-game or multiplayer playtest.
This release includes a procedural armored model, textures and 20 animation takes. Navigation depends on the level's existing NavMesh; disconnected areas and extremely narrow passages can remain unreachable. Model clipping, lighting, door synchronization and compatibility with other mods still need playtesting.
When reporting an issue, include the mod version, game version, host/client role, interior, reproduction steps and relevant BepInEx log. F7 diagnostics can help identify a failed route or missing sound detection.
Bestiary excerpt
Risk classification: Occupational. Repeated conversation may be interpreted as a request for individual service. A throat rattle announces acoustic inspection. Remain still and use substantial cover. Injuries sustained during unnecessary discussion are not reimbursable.
