Oobl Laboratory
Updated 6 months agoOobl Laboratory
The Oobl Laboratory is the custom interior added by Welcome to Ooblterra. By default, the Oobl Lab will only spawn on 523-Ooblterra, and is the only interior that will spawn there. This can be adjusted via LLL's config settings.
Gameplay Information
The Oobl Laboratory contains 16 unique tiles; most are repeatable, though 4 (The Start Room, The Cafeteria, The Machine, and the Frankenstein Room) only appear one time per layout. The latter two tiles, along with Plug Socket Rooms, have unique behaviors that are detailed in later sections.
The Oobl Lab's light system differs from Lethal Company's; each individual light has a random chance of being on or off, and there is no breaker system to toggle them on and off; however, all lights will be turned on if The Machine is activated (see below).
Colors in the Oobl Lab have an important gameplay distinction; red lights signify branch paths, while other colors of light (with rare exception) indicate the main path. Scrap can spawn on all paths; the Frankenstein Room will always spawn along a singular branch path, while the Machine will always spawn at the very end of the main path. The Cafeteria will also always spawn on the main path, though it can be at any point along it.
Frankenstein Rooms
The Frankenstein Room is a unique tile that spawns along the side paths in the Oobl Laboratory. It will most often spawn with a total of 4 Chemicals strewn about the lab.
The Frankenstein Room features two notable interactables; the bed, and the workstation. If a dead player body is placed on the bed, and four chemicals are placed on the workstation, a player may pull the Revive Lever in order to attempt to bring that player back to life. Their success is determined by how correct their chemical combination is. To the left of the revive lever is a "check" switch, which will inform the player of how close they are to the correct combination.
Strategy
The Chemical minigame works similarly to Mastermind or Wordle; a combination of colors is known to the terminal, but not the player. When a player's guess is checked, they are given feedback via one of three colors displayed on lights behind the placed chemical. A green light indicates that the chemical is the correct color in the correct position. A yellow light indicates that the chemical's color is part of the sequence, but in a different position. A red light indicates that the chemical's color does not appear in the sequence. Each chemical color is always unique; there are never duplicates in a sequence.
If a player successfully gets at least 51% of the sequence correct, the player whose body was placed on the bed will be revived and may continue playing as normal. Otherwise, the player's body will be consumed, and they will be respawned at the bed as a Ghost Player.
Each green light is worth 25% "correctness", while each yellow light is worth 12%.
Plug Socket Rooms
The Plug Socket Room is a tile that spawns along the main path in the Oobl Laboratory. It often (but not always) spawns with a plug socket. If a player walks in front of that plug socket, there is a 55% chance that it will instantly close and kill that player. If it does not close, a small click can instead be heard.
The Machine
The Machine is a unique tile that spawns at the end of the main path in the Oobl Laboratory. It always spawns with a Drained Battery, and a scrap shelf that holds 10 pieces of scrap, closed by default.
The Machine provides an alternative objective for players exploring the Oobl Lab. By finding and inserting a Charged Battery, several things will happen:
- All lights in the facility will power on and turn white
- All Shutter Doors will be reset to their highest level
- Eye Security will always deep scan players and will move around the facility faster
- Oobl Ghosts will attack
- The scrap shelf behind The Machine will open to reveal all 10 pieces of scrap
Strategy
To power on The Machine, it is optimal for one player to search for The Machine along the main path, while another searches for the Charged Battery; the Charged Battery always spawns at least some distance away from The Machine, and always spawns along the main path. The Machine will always spawn at the end of the main path, opposite of the Main Entrance at the start of it; due to this, it is advisable to check the Fire Exit, as you are often more likely to find it near there, assuming it spawns on the main path.
After powering on the Machine, players should be ready for Ghosts to attack. The Machine is far more likely to spawn two handed scrap on its shelves; for this reason, extra caution must be used around the now buffed Eye Security. The Machine is often guarded by a shutter door; players should drop their scrap on one side of the shutter door, move to the other, and then reach through to pick it up; this should hopefully minimize chances of a player or their spoils being locked behind a closed shutter.
Since players are overwhelmingly likely to leave through the Fire Exit, it is recommended to bring an extension ladder. This way, players do not have to risk damage from the acid water or waste time jumping across the carts outside.
