Spike Traps are a custom hazard added by Welcome to Ooblterra.
Description
Spike Traps are a group of pentagonal holes that spawn on the ground, clustered in a rectangle formation. They are triggered when a player moves over them; a series of spikes emerge from the ground and remain there for a few seconds, before retracting.
On the ship radar, Spike Traps will appear as a cluster of small red circles, also in a rectangle formation, and will have a terminal input code associated.
Strategy
In most cases, Spike Traps can be safely jumped over; while they will still trigger, the player will be out of range to take damage from them. Occasionally, Spike Traps may spawn in such a way that players may sneak around the side of them; they will not normally trigger if this is done. If neither method works, they can also be disabled at the terminal. They will make a distinctive clicking sound when deactivated, and remain off for 5 seconds.
