Baby Lurker Eggs

Baby Lurker Eggs

Baby Lurker Eggs are a custom hazard added by Welcome to Ooblterra.

Description

Baby Lurker Eggs are a purple, glowing egg sack with four legs, that spawn on ceilings. They are triggered when a player moves under them; they drop to the ground with a loud thud, expand a bit, then burst into a swarm of Baby Lurkers.

On the ship radar, Baby Lurker Eggs will appear as a large red circle, surrounded by 4 smaller red circles on each pole. This map dot will disappear when the Egg is triggered.

Bestiary Entry

Baby Lurker Egg

Danger Level: 80%

As an invasive species, Lurkers are often found creating nests and habitats anywhere they might see as viable. Typically, Lurker Eggs found inside their hive are small pods that house only a single young. These pods are connected to some sort of biomass, which allows the young full space and nutrition to gestate and mature before hatching. If not in their hive, however, Lurkers Eggs will end up different. Any biomass a Lurker can find --normally a dead Oobl or some other creature-- will be gathered, harvested, and formed into large "egg pods". These egg pods will have up to 20 Babies packed inside. The cramped conditions mean that the Baby Lurker's development will often end up stunted, and often these eggs run out of biomass quickly, especially if not regularly refreshed by the mother who created it. If an egg runs out of viable biomass, it will begin glowing; and the babies inside will often burst out and try to find a source. Their bodies in this stage are extremely volatile, and any sudden movements might end up killing them instantly; but the intent is for at least one of the young will end up having a fresh corpse to turn into a meal.

"Just don't get too close. If you end up getting chased by the little guys... Well, I hope you're good at dodging." --Prot

Strategy

Baby Lurker Eggs are best avoided simply by not getting to close, electing to move around them instead of past them. Sometimes this is not possible, and it's better to clear one out to enable further exploration. If one is triggered, it is best to run away as quickly as possible to a wide open space; after that, see the strategy section on Baby Lurkers.
