The Gallenarma is a custom monster added by Welcome to Ooblterra, that appears indoors in the Oobl Laboratory.
Description
Gallenarma are large creatures with rough, chitinous bodies. Four glowing 'eyes' are evenly spaced on its face, and is the first thing normally seen at a distance in the dark; it also sports several large spikes on its body. A Gallenarma's footsteps are loud and are followed by clanking chains.
Gallenarma have a large, red map dot on the ship radar.
Bestiary Entry
Gallenarma
Danger level: 80%
Gallenarma are a strange creature, mostly unknown even to members of the Followers Research and Applied Sciences divisions. In fact, the Research Division's limited travels to the hive they appeared in always ended in disaster. Applied Sciences, however, had a lot less... of a careful approach. But it worked! They managed to capture a few Gallenarma, and keep them chained up in areas where they can be experimented on.
It is at least known to members of the FSD that Gallenarma are completely blind; their eyes are actually painted on their faces, suggesting a higher intelligence. Their sense of hearing is heightened to make up for this, able to pinpoint even the slightest noise; likewise, a strong sense of smell allows them to detect threats and prey from close range. Their body is protected by a suit of chitinous armor; it's unclear if the spikes on its body are used as weapons, or for intimidation. Rumor has it that Lurkers are actually responsible for some of these modifications, since there is a clear symbiosis between the two species.
Strategy
Gallenarma are based almost purely on sound; like Eyeless Dogs, players should keep quiet if one is nearby.
Gallenarma will often be found in one of two states: Asleep, or Roaming. Sleeping Gallenarma will make a snoring sound, and will be chained to the walls of the facility. Simply sneak past them, being careful not to make any noise; they will begin violently shaking out of their chains if awoken. They will also sometimes wake up on their own.
Once a Gallenarma begins roaming, it is imperative to keep quiet; any noise made within range of it will cause it to Immediately go to that noise and investigate, characterized by a unique animation. This is a 'last chance' for the player; keep silent, and do not get close to the Gallenarma, as at this point it will listen close and use its sense of smell to attempt to find you. If it does not find you, it will return to its roaming state. Otherwise, it will beat its chest rapidly for a few seconds; take this opportunity and immediately begin running for an exit, in order to get a head start. Once it begins a chase (characterized by loud growling), they can best be de-aggroed by exiting the facility. If an exit is not nearby, players should instead try to make as much distance as possible by running, and then once their stamina is drained, they should begin sneaking away instead as far as possible. The Gallenarma will only chase up to the last point it heard the player, and then begin investigating again; if you manage to sneak away far enough, it will lose you and begin roaming again.
Gallenarma will not necessarily only target a player who makes noise; any player heard or smelled during its investigation will become their next target.
Gallenarma can be temporarily pacified via a Boombox; they will move toward one they hear it, and begin dancing once close by. They will move with the boombox, meaning this can lead them out of areas if necessary. They will dance for a few minutes before getting bored and returning to their roaming state, though if a player turns off the boombox or is holding it while it loses power, the Gallenarma will instantly enrage and attack.
