Eye Security

Danger level: 30%

Always looking for a new challenge, members of the Followers Applied Sciences Division decided it'd be a fun game to see what exactly they could get away with sneaking out of the facility. While it at first began as a harmless prank, with only small knick-knacks and trinkets being collected, the game escalated. Soon, important documents, materials, and equipment was being taken right under the nose of the security guards and management.

To this end, heads of the FSD decided to automate the problem; and thus, the Eye Security was born. A simple modification of a design created by their brothers in the Followers Research Division (FRD). This design features full movement capabilities, patrol routines, and the ability to scan for misplaced facility assets. If extra power is used, they may even "deep scan" in a target's pockets. Anyone caught stealing would find themselves flashbanged, and the management alerted...

That is, if they were authorized FSD personnel. If not, well, a tresspasser's life is forfeit...

"If they're mad at you, just zap em... However you do it, just shock em. That's all it takes." - Prot

Strategy

Eye Security are only concerned with stolen scrap (including Oobl Keys); they are otherwise harmless if the player is not carrying any. Only scrap stolen out of the Laboratory matters; scrap brought in from other places, such as shotguns, will not cause problems.

Eye Security roam around the facility ambiently, only stopping once they enter the vicinity of a player; at this point, they will begin a scan of one of two types. Under normal circumstances, there are perfectly even odds of either type.

If the Eye Security's scan visual is blue, it has initiated a low-power scan; it will only check the player's active hand for scrap. In this case, players should simply drop or switch off of any scrap they are currently holding, and wait for the scan to complete.

If the scan visual is instead red, the Eye Security is performing a Deep Scan; it will instead check the player's entire inventory. If one is fast enough, they might be able to drop all scrap currently being held; instead, though, it may be smarter to try to twirl opposite to the Eye Security's scan, or get out of the range of its scanner.

Either way, once the scan is complete, the Eye Security will turn off, and will wait up to 30-45 seconds to power back on. Because this is true, players should take care to stay away from small doorways when they hear an Eye Security approach; an Eye Security might disable while under in the doorway and restrict access.

Players should take advantage of the Eye Security's off state if trying to move large quantities of scrap; in fact, if they know an Eye Security is approaching, it is likely best to drop all scrap, intentionally walk next to it in order to trigger a scan, and then pick up their scrap and sneak it past the Eye Security while it is turned off. Be wary that Eye Security give no warning when turning back on and will begin rescanning immediately, so caution should be taken when moving past it.

Eye Security will immediately attack players if scrap is found during a scan, or if they are hit by a weapon of any kind. The Eye Security will flashbang the player, and a green laser will appear from its eye pointed at the victim. This laser will gradually turn red as a loud whine plays; once the laser turns red, the player will be killed instantly. If a player knows they are about to be attacked, they should immediately turn away from the Eye Security, so they are less affected by the Flashbang. After this, they should do everything in their power to put some sort of obstacle between themselves and the Eye Security's line of sight, such that they must move in order to continue their attack; doing so will reset the laser, affording the player more time to continue escaping. If another player is present, a Zap Gun can be used while the Eye Security is in this state, in order to disable it for an extended period of time and clearing its aggro. Otherwise, leaving the facility will also de-aggro the Eye Security.
