README

FlagSurvival

A PEAK survival mode I made — sharing it here with everyone.

Spent over a week thinking through this and ran hundreds of test rounds. Hope you have fun, and feedback is always welcome! Multiplayer testing on Discord has been mostly positive (could be biased — they're friends). The PvP balance turned out better than expected, and the dopamine hits hard when scores keep flipping back and forth between players of similar skill. A flag-less, pure speed-race PvP mode is also planned for a future update.

No separate config file needed — just press the [~] key (above TAB) to open the in-game settings menu. The default language is English since most players will be from outside Korea, but Korean is available too. Difficulty is freely adjustable.

Core rules

A curse builds up over time and slowly drains your HP. Flags spawn randomly across the map, and eating a flag restores HP. The lower your HP, the more it heals — so you get that dramatic "I just barely survived!" feeling.

There are two main modes, plus an optional speed variant:

  • Casual — flags are scarce, HP drains slowly
  • Dynamic — flags spawn often, HP drains fast and recovers fast — a more nail-biting mode
  • Speed Match (optional) — a lighter, more casual variant. Movement speed and climbing speed multipliers are adjusted for every player, so the run feels breezier

Also, like in Crazy Racing Kart Rider, newer players get a dynamic difficulty buff: the further behind 1st place you are, the more your movement speed and climbing become assisted. As a side benefit, this naturally prevents the leader from snowballing all the points.

PvP

Exactly what it sounds like — no reviving anyone, no looking back, just running. (No Scoutmaster appears.)

  • 1 point per flag, with score adjustments for players behind based on the gap to 1st
  • Players who reach a campfire first get bonus points on a sliding scale
  • 3 lives per stage, shown as heart icons in the top-left HUD. Players who burn through all 3 are scored among themselves by how high they climbed
  • After respawning, you get 8 seconds of invincibility
  • 1st place can claim the Scout statue
  • All survivors must gather at a campfire and light it together to revive fallen players (using up all 3 lives means missing out on flag points — big loss)
  • The PvP ending cutscene is different in multiplayer. Multiplayer is strongly recommended!

Coop

A cooperative mode where you collect flags as a team to earn 3 stars based on the team's total flag count. Get fewer than 3 stars, and the Scoutmaster will punish whoever collected the fewest flags. Because of the cooperative nature, the 3-revive limit doesn't apply.

Performance note

There's a noticeable hitch the moment the map loads — still being optimized. If your machine struggles, I recommend lowering flag visibility distance and effect quality in the Graphics tab.

What's new in this update

  • PvP — 8-second respawn invincibility. No more getting instantly killed again the moment you come back.
  • PvP — heart-icon life counter added to the top-left HUD so you can see how many lives you have left at a glance.
  • Coop — Scoutmaster fear effect — the darkness intensity has been softened (it was a bit too punishing before).
  • Performance — shortened light range to reduce frame drops.
  • Performance — reduced the frame drops that happened when entering a game.
