SimlishTTS

SimlishTTS is a fun text-to-speech mod for R.E.P.O. that converts all spoken English chat text into Simlish—the quirky nonsense language from The Sims. It adds a playful twist to your in-game speech using TTS.

This mod works in both singleplayer and multiplayer. Only players with the mod installed will hear the Simlish conversion.

What It Does

  • Translates all spoken English chat text into Simlish
  • Contains over 153 curated Simlish words mapped from English
  • Adds randomized Simlish exclamations and speech effects
  • Applies subtle pitch and flutter changes for varied TTS output
  • Detects already-Simlish text to avoid double conversion
  • Works in singleplayer and multiplayer
  • Only affects players running the mod

How It Works

  • Hooks into Strobotnik.Klattersynth.Speech using Harmony
  • Patches multiple speak methods for both StringBuilder and plain strings
  • Replaces English words with Simlish dictionary entries or generates Simlish-like syllables for unknown words
  • Adds randomized exclamations and voice effects to spice up speech
  • Adjusts pitch and flutter based on emotional keywords
  • Inserts natural pauses for smoother TTS flow
  • Ensures multiplayer syncing without conflicts

Compatibility

  • Compatible with most R.E.P.O. mods
  • No gameplay or performance impact beyond speech conversion
  • Only players with SimlishTTS installed hear the Simlish chat
  • Fully functional in singleplayer and multiplayer

Technical Notes

  • Uses Harmony patches on Speech.speak methods
  • Maintains a dictionary of English-to-Simlish word mappings
  • Uses regex and random syllable generation for unknown words
  • Dynamically modifies TTS parameters for natural variation
  • Includes detailed debug logging
