CartTrain Locomotives

A CartTrain addon for R.E.P.O. that lets the vanilla Scout and Hauler act as powered lead locomotives for a CartTrain chain.

How it works

The Scout/Hauler acts like a player holding the first large cart. The addon applies towing force only to that first cart; CartTrain remains responsible for carts behind it.

Typical setup:

Scout/Hauler -> first large cart -> CartTrain cart 2 -> CartTrain cart 3 -> ...

Attach / detach

There is no automatic coupling.

  1. Put a vanilla large cart near the rear of the Scout or Hauler.
  2. Physically hold either the large cart or the Scout/Hauler.
  3. Press Left Shift + X to connect them.
  4. Hold either member of the connected pair and press Left Shift + X again to disconnect.

The pair stays disconnected until you deliberately attach it again.

Connection indicator

A visible tow/hand-hold beam appears between the rear of the Scout/Hauler and the connected end of the cart while the connection is active.

Compatibility / safety

  • Requires CartTrain 1.3.1.
  • Designed for the vanilla Scout and Hauler.
  • Only the vanilla large cart (Item Cart Medium) can be selected as the locomotive's first follower.
  • PocketCartPlus and other unrelated PhysGrabCart objects are ignored.
  • The addon does not teleport or force-rotate the Scout/Hauler.
  • Towing force is applied only to the connected cart.

Controls

  • Left Shift + X while holding the cart or Scout/Hauler: toggle connection.

Configuration

A BepInEx config file is generated at:

BepInEx/config/CandyKane.CartTrainLocomotives.cfg

It includes towing strength, damping, snap distance, tow gap, connection beam visibility/width, and related safety settings.

Multiplayer

The addon follows CartTrain's host-authoritative model. Install and run it on the host alongside CartTrain.
