AspectNotifications Stand A Lone
Rare Aspect drop? Make some noise. Play your own MP3 alerts when Aspects appear, with a sound picker, Shuffle All, volume control, and previews.π ASPECT NOTIFICATIONS β STAND-A-LONE π
RARE DROP. LOUD REACTION. ONE MORE RUN.
An Aspect just dropped. You deserve to hear about it.
Tired of finding out an Aspect dropped after you've already walked past it? Aspect Notifications gives rare Aspect drops their own custom sound. Pick your favorite MP3, throw a few in a folder, or let Shuffle All surprise you.
Your drops. Your sounds. Your questionable taste in victory music.
π΅ WHAT DOES IT DO?
When the mod recognizes an Aspect pickup spawning in the world, it plays a custom MP3 notification on your PC.
No extra hotkeys. No sound editing tools. No need to replace the game's audio files.
| Feature | What you get |
|---|---|
| π Aspect alerts | A sound when a recognized Aspect pickup appears |
| πΆ Your own MP3s | Use files you choose, not a fixed sound pack |
| π² Shuffle All | Pick randomly from your playable MP3s |
| ποΈ Volume control | Set notification volume from 1% to 100% |
| βΆοΈ Play / Stop | Preview your sounds from the settings menu |
| π Folder Path | Shows the last four folders of your local Sounds location, without exposing your full Windows path |
| π Refresh | Rescan your MP3 folder without restarting the game |
| β Playable count | See how many MP3s passed the file check |
Aspect detection includes supported vanilla Aspect equipment and ZetAspects entries. Other mods that add new Aspects may need extra support.
Screenshot spot: Add a picture of the Select Sound dropdown in RiskOfOptions, showing your MP3 choices and Shuffle All.
βοΈ SETTINGS β KEEP IT SIMPLE
Everything lives in one RiskOfOptions settings section.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Select Sound | Choose a specific MP3 or Shuffle All |
| Volume | Set MP3 volume, 1β100% (default: 85%) |
| Play | Preview the selected sound; Shuffle All chooses a random file |
| Stop | Stop the current preview |
| Folder Path | Show the last four folder names of your local Sounds location |
| Refresh | Rescan the folder and update available choices |
| MP3 Playable | Show accepted MP3s out of all MP3s found |
Example: 5/5 PLAYABLE means all five MP3 files passed the scan.
The dropdown shows Shuffle All plus up to 63 individual MP3 filenames. Shuffle All can still use every playable MP3, even when the folder has more than 63 files.
π ADD YOUR OWN SOUNDS
Your sounds go where the mod is installed. The mod uses the Sounds folder beside its DLL, not a second folder with the team name missing.
For a normal r2modman or Thunderstore Mod Manager install, look here inside your active profile:
BepInEx/plugins/ChronicsCollabs-AspectNotifications_Stand_A_Lone/
βββ AspectNotifications_Stand_A_Lone.dll
βββ Sounds/
βββ alert1.mp3
βββ alert2.mp3
- Open your active profile's
BepInEx/pluginsfolder. - Open
ChronicsCollabs-AspectNotifications_Stand_A_Lone(or whichever folder contains the installed DLL). - Open
Soundsbeside the DLL. Create it if needed. - Add your
.mp3files. - In the mod's settings, press Refresh and choose a file or Shuffle All.
- Press Play to test it.
Included sounds: The mod author can ship MP3s in the package's Sounds folder. Those files install with the mod and appear alongside any MP3s you add yourself. Only include audio you have permission to share.
Folder Path shows only the last four folder names. It is a shortened guide, not your full Windows path or a copy of the author's path.
Upgrading from v0.1.0? The old mod could create BepInEx/plugins/AspectNotifications_Stand_A_Lone/Sounds. Move any personal MP3s from that old folder into Sounds beside the installed DLL. After checking that the new folder works, the old folder can be removed. Older config files may still contain a saved full path; remove that old entry if you want to clear it.
MP3 ONLY. WAV, OGG, and other audio formats are ignored. An MP3 must pass the Windows audio check to appear as playable.
π INSTALLATION
Mod manager (recommended): Install the release through r2modman or Thunderstore Mod Manager when available. Install the listed dependencies, including BepInExPack and RiskOfOptions for the in-game settings menu.
Manual installation:
- Install BepInEx for Risk of Rain 2 and the required RiskOfOptions dependency.
- Place the compiled
AspectNotifications_Stand_A_Lone.dllin its own folder under your activeBepInEx/pluginsdirectory. - Create a
Soundsfolder beside that DLL, and put your MP3 files inside it. - Launch the game through your mod manager.
- Open Settings β Mod Options β AspectNotifications_Stand_A_Lone to select and preview a sound.
Using the source ZIP? That contains the Visual Studio project, not a ready-to-install compiled mod. Build the project first and install the resulting DLL.
π₯ MULTIPLAYER β IMPORTANT
The sound plays locally, on the PC running the mod. It is not sent to everyone in the lobby.
- Players who want to hear the notification should install the mod themselves.
- This mod does not provide a sound fallback for players without it.
- Multiplayer behavior across different host/client setups has not been fully verified.
This is an audio notification mod, not a system for changing Aspect drop rates, loot, or other players' inventories.
π‘οΈ KNOWN LIMITATIONS
- Windows audio only: Custom MP3 playback uses the Windows MCI system. Linux, Steam Deck, and other platforms are not confirmed to work.
- Not 3D audio: The alert is heard locally; it does not get louder or quieter based on your distance from the drop.
- MP3 only: WAV and other formats were removed after unreliable playback tests.
- Not every modded Aspect is guaranteed: Detection covers supported Aspect types and ZetAspects mappings, but unusual modded pickup systems may need special handling.
- No automatic audio for other players: Each listener needs their own working installation.
- File validation is not a full playback guarantee: A file can pass the scan but still fail to play on a particular Windows setup.
Tested so far: Earlier builds loaded in-game, recognized ZetAspects pickups, played MP3s through the Windows backend, and displayed the custom sound dropdown with five MP3 choices. Refresh and preview commands also appeared in logs. The v0.1.1 portable-folder change still needs its own in-game check. A full multiplayer test and every possible file format/codec combination have not been checked.
π BUG REPORTS & SUGGESTIONS
An Aspect dropped and you heard nothing? Tell us:
- Which Aspect dropped, and whether another mod added it.
- Which MP3 was selected (or whether you used Shuffle All).
- Whether the Play button works.
- What MP3 Playable shows.
- Your relevant mods and
BepInEx/LogOutput.log.
A screenshot of the settings menu helps with dropdown or display issues.
π VERSION HISTORY
v0.1.1: The Sounds folder now lives beside the installed DLL, so bundled MP3s and personal files use the same location. The settings show a shortened folder path instead of a full Windows path.
The complete development history, including the failed audio experiments and fixes, is in CHANGELOG.md.
The short version? We tried spatial sound. Windows had other plans. MP3 won.
