BeggarAndBouncer
Give the Bazaar's two entrance statues a purpose: gamble for Void loot with the Beggar, or bribe the Bouncer to regain Newt's favor. The Beggar & The Bouncer
Two forgotten statues. One strange little economy.
The Bazaar Between Time has two stone statues near the approach to Newt's shop. The Beggar & The Bouncer gives them a purpose and a bit of personality: one accepts donations and occasionally hands over something scavenged from the Void; the other can be bribed into letting you back into the Bazaar after you've angered Newt.
This mod was made to make those overlooked statues feel like inhabitants of the Bazaar, while giving players a costly, lore-friendly alternative to being permanently locked out after provoking the shopkeeper. It is not an Artifact and requires no activation; the interactions appear automatically in the Bazaar.
The Beggar — left entrance statue
The purple, Void-touched statue is not welcome inside the shop. Give him Lunar Coins, and he might share something he found near the portal below.
- 1 Lunar Coin to start; subsequent attempts scale by 2×, even on failure (1, 2, 4, 8, 16, ...).
- 5% chance of an item on ordinary attempts.
- Guaranteed item on attempts 5, 10, and 15, regardless of earlier wins.
- 15 attempts maximum per Bazaar visit.
- On a successful attempt, a random item is chosen from the current run's available pools: 60% Void Tier 1 / 30% Void Tier 2 / 10% Void Tier 3.
- If no Void items are available, rewards use regular white (60%) / green (30%) / red (10%) item pools instead. An empty individual tier pool falls back to another available pool.
- Drops launch inward toward the walkway to avoid the drop-off.
- The attempt counter and escalating price are shared by all players in the Bazaar, not reset for each player.
The rising prices are intentionally severe: the Beggar is more of a donation-based gamble than a cheap source of Void items. The three guaranteed rewards are milestones, not three free items.
The Bouncer — right entrance statue
Newt doesn't take kindly to being attacked. Once he has ejected you and sealed the entrance, the blue Lunar-touched statue offers a way back in—for a price.
- First pardon: 10 Lunar Coins.
- Each successful pardon multiplies the next cost by 2.5×, rounded up (10, 25, 63, 157, ...).
- The increased fee persists for the run and resets on a new run.
- The Bouncer can be used only after Newt has actually sealed the shop. A pardon is available once per Bazaar visit.
- Paying deactivates the entrance restriction and its teleport-away zone, so you can reenter the shop.
- The original punishment still happens. The Bouncer does not resurrect Newt, restore his hurtbox, reset his hostility, or allow repeatedly killing him for rewards. That makes it naturally compatible in concept with NewtLoot.
Character and visual details
- The Beggar has a purple Void-themed aura; the Bouncer has a blue Lunar-themed aura.
- After purchases, randomly selected chat dialogue gives them distinct personalities. The Beggar thanks players, talks about being barred from the shop, and describes his strange finds; the Bouncer offers stern, occasionally sarcastic warnings.
- Dialogue appears in multiplayer chat and can be disabled in the config.
- Interaction prompts show the real Lunar Coin cost even when you cannot afford it. The server still rejects unaffordable purchases, so seeing the prompt does not mean the purchase is free.
- The two statues by the Void portal remain ordinary decorations.

Multiplayer and compatibility
Tested in multiplayer: purchases, prices, item rewards and the Bouncer's ability to reopen the Bazaar were tested and reported working and synchronized. Server-authoritative purchases prevent spending more coins than a player owns. The goober gambling attempts are shared across players.
The mod draws reward items from the current run's available drop pools and can include compatible modded items. Void items do not require the Void DLC to be enabled because normal item tiers are used as a fallback.
Like any scene-modifying plugin, compatibility with mods that significantly rebuild the Bazaar or replace Newt's punishment system is not guaranteed. The mod targets the vanilla entrance statues and kickout restriction.
Installation
Use r2modman or Thunderstore Mod Manager to install the package and its declared dependencies automatically. For manual installation, install BepInExPack, R2API.Prefab and R2API.Language, then place BeggarAndBouncer.dll in your BepInEx/plugins folder.
