No Limits

Two configurable Risk of Rain 2 difficulties for chaotic runs: No Limits Lite and No Limits True.

Pre-1.0 release. Tested against Steam build 1.5.0#1224. This mod relies on version-specific game hooks. Other game builds are not verified. It does not modify original game files.

Choose your chaos

No Limits Lite No Limits True
Ambient enemies Native local stage pools Expanded ordinary enemy pools across stages
Ambient bosses No separate boss event or timer Ordinary bosses can spawn through the native Director
Teleporter 1-4 successful bosses, native local pool 1-4 successful bosses, expanded ordinary pool
Enemy Director credits 8x 12x
Spawn intervals 0.2x 0.15x

Each teleporter count from 1 to 4 has an equal 25% chance with default settings. Final, story and special arena bosses are excluded from the expanded pool. Owned-content availability checks remain in effect. Native placement failures do not spend the selected boss quota. No separate total monster population cap is added by this mod.

Loot, items and progression

  • Supported chest families drop 1-8 independently rolled pickups, each count equally likely. Each roll uses the chest's original drop table. Printers, shops and teleporter rewards are not multiplied.
  • Chest generation uses reduced Director credit costs and adds ordinary chest varieties, including legendary chests on early stages. Purchase prices and mandatory stage objects retain their native rules.
  • Ordinary hostile kills replace their base gold and XP rewards with independent integers from 1 to 1000. Story rewards and additional item rewards retain their own rules.
  • Extended item scaling normalizes supported first-copy bonuses and implements adapters for cooldown throughput, excess proc chances, critical damage, healing and selected DLC mechanics. Tougher Times' original block curve is preserved.
  • Excess supported proc chances produce guaranteed activations plus a fractional roll. The native successful effect branch is used. Work above the per-frame budget is queued; secondary proc chains are marked to prevent recursive multiplication.
  • Player progression extends beyond the native XP table. Monster progression defaults to 1000% of normal ambient-level growth. Native numeric limits and physics timing still apply.

For cooldown coefficient b from the first copy, supported cooldown items use 1 / (1 + n*(1-b)/b): each copy adds the same recovery throughput. Native additional charges remain available. Supported adapters include Fuel Cell, Gesture, Alien Head, Light Flux, Afterburner and Lysate Cell. Safer Spaces uses 13.5/n seconds with a physics-step minimum.

Additional special handling includes Death Mark, Medkit, Bungus, excess Lost Seer/Guillotine executions on eligible nearby enemies, Chance Doll extra table rolls and Eulogy extra lunar drops. Execution effects respect their target conditions and immunities; absent eligible targets are not replaced by simulated kills. Eulogy overflow also applies to naturally lunar physical drops, with a marker to stop self-replication. Artifact Command and registered Quality tiers are preserved in the tested cases.

Installation

Install with Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman. Required BepInEx/R2API packages are declared as dependencies and are installed by the manager.

For manual installation, install those dependencies first, then copy the archive's plugins/NoLimits folder into your profile's BepInEx/plugins folder. Remove older duplicate NoLimits DLLs. Launch a standard run and select either new difficulty in the lobby.

Settings are created after the first launch at BepInEx/config/local.runa.nolimits.cfg. Change settings between runs. To uninstall, remove only this mod's plugin folder; its configuration can be retained or removed separately.

Configuration and the 1000% update

[Levels]
EnemyLevelScalingMultiplier = 10

10 means 1000% of ordinary growth, 1 means 100%, 0.5 means 50%, and 20 means 2000%. The first ambient level stays 1; the increase above level 1 is multiplied. In RoR2, ordinary monsters primarily scale with the run's ambient level rather than collecting XP like a survivor. This setting changes that progression, not XP awarded to players for kills.

Updating from 0.2.0: existing settings are preserved. If your configuration still contains EnemyLevelScalingMultiplier = 2, edit that line to 10 to opt into the new default. The archive deliberately does not overwrite your configuration.

Other defaults:

Section Setting Default
Bosses TeleporterBossMin / TeleporterBossMax 1 / 4
Loot ChestDropMin / ChestDropMax 1 / 8
Loot ChestCreditMultiplier 5
Levels PlayerXpRequirementMultiplier 0.4
Levels RemovePlayerLevelCap / RemoveEnemyLevelCap true / true
Performance ExtraProcBudgetPerFrame 32
Items ExecutionOverflowRadius 60

Individual systems can be disabled in [Modules]. Enemy growth requires EnableLevels = true and a No Limits difficulty. Finite representable numbers and frame budgets do not make arbitrarily large runs free of hardware limits.

Quality and multiplayer

Quality is optional. Compatibility was exercised with Goorakh-Quality 0.8.4, plugin ID com.Gorakh.ItemQualities. Install it and its own dependencies separately if desired. This package does not include or modify Quality's DLLs.

Quality owns its effective item counts, variants and native quality effects. No Limits waits for its catalog and does not add variant stacks a second time. Tested native and deferred Sticky Bomb effects retained the Rare damage coefficient, and both Quality chest types retained independent quality rolls.

All participants need the same No Limits version and matching gameplay mod set, including Quality when used. Spawns, reward changes, extra drops and additional proc effects execute on the server. Server progression/module settings are synchronized to clients. Mid-run configuration changes are not a supported settings workflow.

Verification and known limitations

The 0.2.0 baseline passed 151 assertions with Quality and 143 without it. These totals include pool and XP-boundary checks, not that many independently verified item mechanics. Both runs included 6,000 native proc activations over a controlled minute with a fully drained queue. Separate server/client processes verified two player subslots, level 1000, different mixed-quality inventories, projectile replication without duplicate client execution, death and stage-transition recovery.

For 0.2.1, 14 checks run directly against the released DLL verify 50%/100%/1000%/2000% growth, level-one behavior, optional level caps, monotonicity and numeric saturation. The growth arithmetic was extracted without changing the scaling formula. A new native-game batch-mode run did not complete because the client startup does not support the attempted no-window workflow; it is not counted as a passed test. The broader gameplay and multiplayer results above are the 0.2.0 baseline, not a fresh full regression run of 0.2.1.

211 visible base items were individually checked at 1 and 10 copies for inventory count, finite HP/damage and removal. This is not complete combat verification of every effect or every item combination. Unsupported or unrecognized native expressions retain their original behavior. This release does not claim universal support for items added by arbitrary other mods.

Dedicated gameplay scenarios are still missing for Delusion, Swarms/companion/Mountain Shrine combinations, every stage and every quality variant. Multi-hour runs, reconnect, two physical computers and Internet/P2P sessions have not been verified. Earlier Unity particle/UI warnings and errors occurred in the lab; a passing assertion suite is not a claim of an entirely clean Unity log.

Queued effects that need an expired body are cancelled. Queues are cleared on stage/run cleanup. Very large counts can take time to drain. Game updates or other mods replacing the same IL sites can break compatibility.

If a problem occurs, include the game build, No Limits version, difficulty, active mod list, relevant configuration and BepInEx/LogOutput.log in your report.

Credits and license

Built with assistance from OpenAI Codex (GPT-6 family) and Universal Modder 0.2.0. Uses BepInEx, HarmonyX/MonoMod and R2API. Quality integration was researched against the installed mod and Goorakh's open source.

The package icon is an original procedural vector design. No game artwork or third-party mod binaries are included. Original No Limits code and icon are provided under the included MIT license; game and dependency rights remain with their respective owners.

Коротко по-русски

Выберите No Limits Lite или No Limits True в лобби. Настройки появятся в BepInEx/config/local.runa.nolimits.cfg.
