FakeFriend
An AI co-op partner. Pick its survivor, skin and skills in character select. Doesn't take a lobby slot (4 players + bot), only the host needs it.FakeFriend
An AI co-op partner for Risk of Rain 2. Playing alone? Bring a friend who never goes AFK.
FakeFriend adds a bot that plays a survivor next to you: it follows you around the stage, fights what you fight, levels up with your team, and comes back next stage if it dies, just like a real co-op player.
Features
- Pick anything for it. In the character select screen a FakeFriend panel shows up next to the game's own UI. Choose the bot's survivor, skin and skills. Every survivor, skin and skill variant is available, including ones from other mods.
- Doesn't take a player slot. The bot is an AI character, not a player. A full lobby of 4 players can still have the bot as a 5th member.
- Only the host needs the mod. The bot is spawned by the host and synced by the game itself, so friends can join without installing anything, and the mod never ends up in the lobby's required mod list.
- Can be switched off. One click on BOT ON / BOT OFF in the panel, at any time, even mid-run.
- Behaves like a teammate.
- Every vanilla survivor has hand-tuned AI (ported from PlayerBots by Melledy): it knows when to use each skill, aims instantly and reacts every tick. Seeker meditates and Railgunner hits the reload boost on its own.
- Modded survivors use the AI their mod ships, or a generic one when there is none.
- Attacks whatever you attack, stays close, runs back when it gets too far, and teleports to you if it gets lost.
- Shares your team's level and shows up in your ally list on the HUD.
- If you die in multiplayer, it follows the closest living player.
- Three item modes:
- Random, same rarity (default): whenever you get an item, the bot gets a random one of the same rarity. Feels like a partner with their own luck.
- Copy mine: the bot always has the same items as you.
- None: no items.
- Death and respawn: like a real co-op player, a dead bot comes back at the next stage. You can set a respawn timer instead in the config.
How to use
- Install with a mod manager (or drop
FakeFriend.dllintoBepInEx/plugins). - Start a single-player run or host a lobby. The panel is on the right side of the character select screen. Drag it by the title, or press Hide to fold it.
- Pick the bot's survivor, skin and skills, and start the run. The bot joins next to you once you leave the drop pod.
- Press F6 during the run to open the panel again: switch the bot off/on, change its items, or pick a different survivor and press Apply changes.
Config
BepInEx/config/Jirka.FakeFriend.cfg (all of it can also be changed from the panel except the last four):
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Enabled | true | Bot on or off |
| Survivor / Skin / Skills | Commando, 0, defaults | The bot's character and loadout |
| Items | RandomSameTier | CopyHost, RandomSameTier or None |
| Respawn delay | 0 | Seconds until a dead bot returns. 0 = next stage |
| Leash distance | 60 | Meters before the bot runs back to you when it has nothing to shoot (twice this: even mid-fight) |
| Teleport distance | 120 | Meters before the bot teleports to you |
| Panel key | F6 | Opens the panel during a run |
| UI scale | 1 | Panel size |
Good to know
- The bot does not open chests, use shrines, activate the teleporter or use equipment. You are still the one playing the objective.
- Like real players, the run ends when every human player is dead, even if the bot is still alive.
- The bot does not count as a player for difficulty scaling.
- Clients who have the mod see the panel in the run, but only the host's settings are used.
