LegacyBaseFovCompat
Restores AddFoVSettings compatibility with the current Risk of Rain 2 camera system: custom FOV works again, and sprint FOV off stays steady.LegacyBaseFovCompat
AI-generated project notice: the code and documentation were written with AI assistance and then tested in Risk of Rain 2 by the project owner. Please report anything that does not work as described.
A small compatibility patch that makes AddFoVSettings work again on the current version of Risk of Rain 2.
Why is this needed?
AddFoVSettings adds a Base Camera FOV slider and a Sprinting Increases FOV option to the game's settings. After a recent game update, the slider and checkbox still show up and still save your choice, but the game's new camera code ignores the value, so the view stays at the default FOV.
This patch connects AddFoVSettings' settings to the current camera system:
- Base Camera FOV works again. The FOV you pick is what you see in game.
- Sprinting Increases FOV = off keeps your chosen FOV steady while you start sprinting, keep sprinting and stop, with no flicker or jump.
- Sprinting Increases FOV = on keeps the game's normal, smooth sprint zoom on top of your chosen FOV.
- Aiming and zoom effects from abilities still work, relative to your chosen FOV.
AddFoVSettings itself is not changed. This package does not replace or include any other mod's files. It only uses the official packages listed below.
Installation (r2modman)
- Install AddFoVSettings through r2modman as usual (if you haven't already).
- Install LegacyBaseFovCompat in the same profile.
- Start the game with Start modded.
r2modman installs the required packages automatically: BepInExPack, HookGenPatcher, AddFoVSettings and AddFoVSettings' own dependencies.
Usage
Use AddFoVSettings' normal controls: Settings → Gameplay → Base Camera FOV and Sprinting Increases FOV. Changing them from the pause menu during a run applies immediately (this is the tested way to use them). LegacyBaseFovCompat has no in-game menu of its own.
Configuration
Nothing needs to be configured. The config file BepInEx\config\Nhiblam.LegacyBaseFovCompat.cfg (also editable in
r2modman's Config editor) only contains troubleshooting options, both off by default:
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
Diagnostics.TraceAppliedFov |
false |
Logs the camera FOV this patch calculates, at most once every 5 seconds. |
Diagnostics.TraceSprintTransitions |
false |
Logs a few frames around each of the first 10 sprint starts/stops of a session. |
Compatibility
Tested with:
| Component | Version |
|---|---|
| Risk of Rain 2 | Steam build 25475991 (game update of 2026-10-08) |
| AddFoVSettings | 1.0.0 |
| BepInExPack | 5.4.2122 |
| HookGenPatcher | 1.2.9 |
| RoR2BepInExPack | 1.45.0 |
| R2API | 5.0.5 (with R2API Core 5.3.0) |
Notes:
- Only works together with AddFoVSettings. Without AddFoVSettings it does not load and changes nothing.
- Client-side only: it changes your own camera and sends nothing over the network. Other players don't need it.
- Other mods that change the gameplay camera FOV may conflict with it. Use one FOV mod at a time.
- Not tested with split-screen.
- If a future game update changes the camera code again, the patch logs an error and leaves the camera alone instead of guessing.
Reporting a problem
Please include:
- What you did and what you saw (for example "the view flickers when I start sprinting with sprint FOV off").
- Your LogOutput.log. In r2modman, open Settings → Browse profile folder, then go to
BepInEx\LogOutput.log. Attach it after closing the game, because it is rewritten every time the game starts. - For sprint-related problems, first set
Diagnostics.TraceSprintTransitions = truein the config editor, reproduce the problem once, then attach that log.
A healthy log contains these lines near the start:
[Info :LegacyBaseFovCompat] LegacyBaseFovCompat 0.2.1 build=...
[Info :LegacyBaseFovCompat] AddFoVSettings 1.0.0 bound: ...
[Info :LegacyBaseFovCompat] CameraModePlayerBasic.UpdateInternal IL hook applied.
Building from source
Requirements: Windows, the .NET SDK (tested with 10.0) and PowerShell 7.
.\scripts\Build-Package.ps1
This builds the plugin in Release mode against the official NuGet reference packages, assembles package\, and
writes the Thunderstore ZIP to dist\. See the comments at the top of the script for the optional checks against an
installed copy of the game.
