Climate

Adds regional climates, seasonal trade winds, large pressure systems, medium pressure cells, and instruments to measure weather to the game.

Regional Climates

Each region (Al'Ankh, Emerald Archipelago, Aestrin, and Fire Fish Lagoon)will have a baseline climate. This climate will vary daily as well as change throughout the day and seasonally. Seasons are based of off the northern hemisphere seasonal schedule. The game has a running day count which seasons are based off of, The year length is configurable so day 0 and day 92 are the first day of the year if playing with a 92 day long year, day 0 and day 365 are the first day of the year if playing with a 365 day long year.

Storms will affect the climate also. When closer to a storm center the pressure will drop, so temperature will go down, which will also increase the humidity.

Seasonal Trade Winds

This replaces the base games trade winds and can be disabled in the configs. The trade winds will shift depending on the season. The direction and speed of the trade winds are generated by the interactions between pressure systems. Thank you to @MerijnZ1 for providing the initial python script the winds and pressure systems are based off of.

Ocean maps with the trade winds of each season can be bought in Gold Rock City, Dragon Cliffs, and Ft. Aestrin at it's own market stall that may share items with BetterFishing if installed.

The in game maps use wind barbs to depict the wind. The barbs on the map do not represent a fixed wind speed; for example, one long barb does not necessarily equal 10 knots. Wind speed is determined by multiple factors, so the barbs are best viewed as representing wind speeds relative to one another.

Pressure Systems

Six persistent large pressure systems will move in a seasonal set pattern off the edge of the map. These systems will provide the new trade winds which will shift throughout the year. These systems will also influence the pressure characteristic (High or Low), movement speed, and movement direction of pressure cells that spawn near them. These systems will also affect the baseline pressure of 29.7inHg.

Pressure Cells

Six medium pressure cells will always be on the map and will be moving through it. The pressure cells will affect the baseline pressure of 29.7inHg. Pressure cells can be high or low with varying intensity, will have a lifespan of a few days, and will vary in their intensity depending on where they are in their lifespan and on how close you are to their center. They will persist when loading a save.

Low pressure will cause a cooling effect and high pressure will cause a radiative cooling effect at night.

Visual Climate Effects

  • Fog that occurs when temps drop close to the region's dew point.
  • Clouds that occurs when humidity is high enough and pressure is low enough.
  • Rain that occurs when humidity is high enough and pressure is low enough.

Instruments

All instruments can be bought in Gold Rock City, Dragon Cliffs, and Ft. Aestrin at it's own market stall that may share items with BetterFishing if installed.

The thermometer and hygrometer values are based on the regional climates added to the game.

The values read from the barometer are based on pressure cells and how close you are to the nearest storm. The lowest a pressure cell can lower the pressure to is 28.2inHg, anything lower than that means you are definitely in a storm. A value of 26inHg means you are at the center of the storm.

Configurable

  • The length of the year. This affects when seasons happen.
  • Enable/disable custom trade winds.
  • The maximum wind speed for trade winds.
  • The maximum wind speed contribution by pressure cells.
  • The stability of the wind.

For Other Mod Authors

The WeatherService class offers many different functions to retrieve climate related values if you would like to use any weather related data from this mod.

There are exposed variables and methods to change the size of the trade winds grid, add more generated pressure cells, and to add custom pressure systems. See Climate_Plugin for the exposed variables.

I use prefab directory indexes 820 - 825.

Installation

If updating, remove Climate folders and/or Climate.dll files from previous installations.

Extract the downloaded zip. Inside the extracted Climate-<version> folder copy the Climate folder and paste it into the Sailwind/BepInEx/Plugins folder.
