Adds 11 ambient NPC conversations with 67 dialogue lines: rent arguments, workplace gossip, troublesome neighbours and everyday drama. Includes strong language.CityChatter
The city has plenty to complain about. Now its residents have more to say.
CityChatter adds 11 ambient NPC conversations with 67 connected dialogue lines to Shadows of Doubt. Overhear arguments about rent, missing lunches, borrowed clothes, bad job references and a dinner invitation that sounds a little too good to be true.
What's included
- Rent arguments and unpaid debts.
- Job applications and workplace gossip.
- Missing lunches and a lazy coworker.
- Neighbour disputes, broken lifts and forgotten names.
- Borrowed clothes and a suspicious dinner invitation.
- Dynamic names in selected lines.
Conversations use a mixture of friends, neighbours, coworkers and other acquaintances. They range from 2 to 10 lines and alternate between two speakers.
Contains strong language and adult references. English dialogue.
Installation
Install through Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman with the listed dependencies.
For manual installation, install BepInEx and DDSLoader with its dependencies, then copy the package's BepInEx folder into your Shadows of Doubt installation. The content should end up at BepInEx/plugins/CityChatter/DDSContent. Restart the game.
If you installed the earlier CityChatter test folder manually, move that old BepInEx/plugins/CityChatter folder outside the active plugins directory before switching to a mod-manager installation. Keep one active copy of CityChatter.
In-game behaviour
These are ambient conversations between NPCs, not new questions in the player's dialogue menu. Who is nearby and whether the participants meet a conversation's relationship requirements affect when you encounter it. You may hear other conversations first.
CityChatter is a separate DDS content mod. Nightstalker and CommunityCaseLoader are not required. It includes no custom gameplay DLL or voice recordings and does not replace existing dialogue.
Testing and known limitations
CityChatter content and strings loaded successfully in the author's test setup. Launch logs recorded eight distinct conversations starting, and the Suspicious Dinner conversation was observed in-game. Not every exchange or dynamic replacement has been checked in-game yet.
The employee-name replacement in Lazy Coworker is not confirmed to exclude the two speakers. If you encounter an incorrect name, an error token or a cut-off exchange, include the conversation's opening line and your log when reporting it.
