CreatureDiscomforts
Your own body matters now: catch colds, go hungry and thirsty, drink yourself sick. No extra UI, just statuses next to the game's own.Changelog
1.1.1
- Lists BepInEx as a dependency, so mod managers install it.
- Tidier README.
1.1.0
- Your body has reserves now: weight and water balance. You never see them. They drain while you are Hungry or Thirsty, and fast once food or water runs out completely. Only when they run low are you Starving or Parched: about a day without water, a day and a half without food. They come back slowly once you are fed again: water in a few hours, weight over a couple of days, so one meal doesn't undo a fast. You can't grow fat: reserves stop at full.
- A full night's sleep takes a night. From exhausted to rested is seven
hours instead of four (
Needs.SleepHoursToRest), and you only get Well Rested after eight hours of sleep in one go (Needs.WellRestedAfterHours): a nap restores energy, not more. To make up for it, sleep fast-forwards twice as fast as before (Needs.SleepTimeScale). - Hunger and thirst go slower while you sleep: a quarter of the awake
pace instead of the game's half, so a night's sleep no longer leaves you
parched (
Needs.SleepNeedsRate). - SOD.QoL is now required. It fixes the base game's tiredness, which coffee and sleep in this mod depend on.
- Things you take now mix. The mod keeps track of what you drink, smoke
and swallow, and some combinations have consequences. Settings are under
[Mixing], each can be turned off:- Caffeine keeps you awake. For as long as it's in you you can't
fall asleep: about five hours after a coffee, three after a tea, and two
coffees add up (
CaffeineHalfLife,CaffeineWiredAbove). Lie down to sleep and you are back awake in bed, too wired. No energy comes back and you don't get Well Rested. A Wired status shows while the caffeine is still keeping you up. - Coffee is borrowed energy. Each cup costs a little energy two to six
hours later (
CaffeineDebt). - Coffee on an empty stomach makes you queasy.
- Eating when you are already full makes you queasy.
- Drink and painkillers or cough syrup make you sick and tired.
- Drink and sleeping pills knock you out cold, the way losing a fight does: you may wake up in hospital.
- Caffeine keeps you awake. For as long as it's in you you can't
fall asleep: about five hours after a coffee, three after a tea, and two
coffees add up (
- No more notifications in the middle of the screen. When something happens to you (throwing up, a bad mix, too wired to sleep), your detective says a short line instead.
Needs.StarvingBelowandNeeds.ParchedBeloware replaced byNeeds.StarvingReservesandNeeds.ParchedReserves, since the statuses now go by your reserves.- The headache from thirst no longer starts the moment you get Thirsty:
only once you are properly dry (below 0.1 water,
Needs.ThirstHeadacheBelow), and it grows faster the drier you are.
1.0.0
First release.
- You can catch a cold. Being out in the cold or soaking wet slowly
gives you a cold, fastest when you are both. As it gets worse you get a
stuffy nose (slightly slower, and it slowly gives you a headache), then a
headache, then a fever (no health recovery, lower
maximum health, slower, you sweat, get thirsty and tired faster), then chills (you lose heat faster
and move slower). A fever also blurs your vision a little.
A cold only wears off when you are properly warm and dry; merely chilly,
it stays where it is. It passes in about a day, three times faster
asleep in a bed.
Medicine eases symptoms for a few hours but does not cure the cold, so the
symptoms come back while you are still ill: painkillers for the headache,
cough medicine for the fever and stuffy nose (it makes you drowsy and a
little tipsy — better taken before bed), a heat pack for the chills. Taking more does not stack,
and the same medicine taken again within a day works for a shorter time:
the third painkiller of the evening lasts half as long as the first.
The Wet and Cold statuses now mention that they can give you a cold.
Settings are under
[Illness];CatchingColds = falseturns it off. - Drinking only feels warm. While drunk you lose body heat one and a
half times as fast, but you stop shivering and don't get chills — a drink out in the cold hides how cold you are getting.
Alcohol.AlcoholHeatLoss. - Drinks behave more like drinks. Spirits (bourbon, vodka) dry you out and make you tired instead of quenching your thirst; beer, cider and wine are unchanged. Coffee and tea no longer sober you up, and coffee, tea and Starch Kola no longer cancel out painkillers.
- Getting very drunk makes you sick. Past a point, nausea builds up the drunker you are, and anything you drink once you can't get any drunker goes straight to your stomach: a second bottle of vodka comes back up.
- Bad enough nausea makes you throw up where you stand, toilet or not.
- Throwing up sobers you up and wears you out.
- Going without food or water costs you. Run out of food entirely and
you are Starving; out of water, Parched. Either way health recovery
stops, you stumble now and then like a drunk, and you slowly lose health,
but never below a quarter of it, so it never lands you in hospital.
Settings are under
[Needs];Starving = falseandParched = falseturn them off. - Enduring thirst gives you a headache. While you are Thirsty a headache
slowly builds; painkillers stop it for a while.
Needs.ThirstHeadachePerHour. - Neglect wears down your resistance. Days of going hungry, thirsty or
short of sleep make colds catch faster and pass slower; eating, drinking
and sleeping well build it back. It is never shown.
Illness.Immunity. - Thirst drains faster than hunger (1.5x by default,
Needs.ThirstToHunger). The base game already has it 1.2x; this makes a drink matter a bit sooner. Set to 0 to keep the game's own rate. - The mod's own statuses have their own icons.
- Debug keys F7 (your condition to the log), F8 (on-screen needs panel) and F9 (every shop item to a table). Detailed logging is off by default.
