Aicho Custom Audio Enhanced
Reemplaza música, efectos, ambiente y clima con tus propios sonidos. | Replace music, effects, ambience and weather with your own sounds.ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

🎵 Aicho Custom Audio 🎵
Replace Valheim's music, sound effects, ambience and weather sounds with your own, no coding needed: just create folders and drop your files inside. Made from scratch, inspired by Aedenthorn's classic Custom Audio, and compatible with its same folders.
It includes tools to build your sounds in-game: a detector that tells you the name of every sound, a catalog of every sound in the game, listening and volume/frequency tuning from the console, reloading without restarting, and new sounds for the map, the chat and equipping weapons.

🧩 How to use 🧩
The basic idea
The first time you start the game, the mod creates a CustomAudio folder next to its .dll file, with 3 folders inside: Music, SFX and Ambient.
The folder name is the name of the game sound, and the files you put inside are your sounds. If there are several, a random one plays each time.
| Example 📁 | Result |
|---|---|
| CustomAudio/SFX/sfx_tree_hit/ with your files inside | Changes the tree hit sound |
| CustomAudio/Music/meadows/ with your songs | Changes the Meadows music |
| CustomAudio/Ambient/Forest_day/ with your sounds | Changes the forest's daytime sounds (birds, branches...) |
- Supported formats: .wav, .ogg and .mp3.
- An empty folder keeps the original game sound.
How do I find the name of each sound?
Open the console with F5:
| Command ⌨️ | Action |
|---|---|
| customaudio detector | Every sound playing nearby shows up in the console with its folder name. Do the action (hit, walk, open a door...) and copy the name. Turn it off with customaudio detector off. |
| customaudio catalog | Creates CustomAudio_Catalog.txt next to the .dll with every sound in the game, sorted into sections (Player, Weapons, Animals, Enemies, Bosses...) with a description of each one. Use it inside a world. |
| customaudio play name vanilla | Plays the original sound so you know which one it is. Press Tab to autocomplete names. |
What you can change
| Folder 📁 | What it changes |
|---|---|
| SFX/ effect_name / | A sound effect: hits, footsteps, creatures, weapons, interface... |
| Loose file in SFX/ with the same name as the original file | Only that specific file. Great for footsteps, which sound different on each surface. |
| Folder starting with _ (e.g. SFX/_footsteps/) | Just for organizing: its files work exactly like loose files. |
| Music/ list / (menu, meadows, blackforest, home, combat, boss_eikthyr...) | The music for that place or moment. |
| Music/ Weather + Morning, Day, Evening or Night / | Music for a specific weather and time of day (e.g. ClearNight). |
| Ambient/ Biome, Biome _day or Biome _night/ | The biome's ambient sounds (any time, daytime or night). |
| Ambient/ Weather _loop/ | The continuous background of a weather: rain, thunderstorm, snowstorm, fog... (e.g. Rain_loop) |
| SFX/groundtorch, walltorch, fire_pit, bonfire, hearth, portal | The loops of torches, campfires, hearth and portal. |
| Ambient/ocean and Ambient/wind | The ocean and wind sounds. |
New sounds (that the game doesn't have)
| Folder 📁 | When it plays |
|---|---|
| SFX/_map_open/ | When opening the map |
| SFX/_map_closed/ | When closing the map (if it doesn't exist, the opening one is used) |
| SFX/_chat_open/ | When opening the chat with Enter |
| SFX/_chat_send/ | When sending a message |
| SFX/_chat_closed/ | When closing the chat without sending |
| SFX/equip type / | When equipping a type of item: sword, axe, battleaxe, club, sledge, knife, spear, atgeir, bow, crossbow, staff, pickaxe, fist, shield, torch, tool, helmet, chest, legs, cape, utility, trinket, ammo |
| SFX/equip Item / | When equipping a specific item (e.g. _equip_SwordIron). It takes priority over the type. |
| SFX/unequip type or Item / | When putting away the weapon or item |
Volume and frequency: settings.txt
You can put a settings.txt file inside any folder:
volume = 1.5
frequency = 0.5
| Option ⚙️ | Action |
|---|---|
| volume | Volume of that folder: 1 = normal, 0.5 = half, 2 = double (max 10). |
| frequency | How often it plays: 1 = always, 0.5 = half of the time, 0 = never. |
You don't need to write it by hand, you can do it in-game:
| Command ⌨️ | Action |
|---|---|
| customaudio play sfx_tree_hit vol 1.5 | Plays it louder to test it. |
| customaudio play sfx_tree_hit freq 0.5 | Simulates 8 hits with that frequency to test it. |
| customaudio play sfx_tree_hit vol 1.5 freq 0.5 save | Saves it to settings.txt and applies it right away. |
All commands
| Command ⌨️ | Action |
|---|---|
| customaudio | Shows the help and how many sounds were loaded. |
| customaudio play name | Listen to a sound. Options: all, vanilla, a specific file, vol, freq and save. |
| customaudio stop | Stops what is playing with play. |
| customaudio skip | Skips the song that is playing. |
| customaudio music | What music is playing and which one belongs to where you are. |
| customaudio env | Shows the current weather. |
| customaudio detector / off | Shows the sounds playing nearby. |
| customaudio autoreload / off | Reloads any folder you change by itself, without restarting or freezing the game. |
| customaudio catalog | Creates the catalog with every sound in the game. |
| customaudio reload | Reloads all sounds. |
| customaudio reset | Reloads the configuration. |
Things to keep in mind
- If you put several songs in a music folder, when one ends a different one plays, never the same one twice in a row.
- To use the same sounds in two folders: create the folder and put only a text file inside named after the other folder (e.g. Music/evening/morning.txt).
- If your sound plays with a delay, your file has silence at the start: trim it with an audio editor (for example Audacity).
- If you need a very high volume, raise it in the file itself too so it doesn't distort.
- If a sound doesn't play, check that the folder name is exact (use the detector or the catalog).
- If something goes wrong, check BepInEx/LogOutput.log: the mod tells you which file failed and why.
- The mod is protected against Valheim updates: if an update changes something, only the affected feature is turned off and everything else keeps working.
- Music is kept compressed in memory: it sounds the same, but uses much less RAM and the game loads faster.
- The mod is available in English and Spanish (it follows your Valheim language by default).
⚙️ Settings ⚙️
All options can be changed in:
BepInEx\config\aicho.customaudio.cfg (or with F1 if you use Configuration Manager)
Options:
- Language: mod language. Auto (Valheim's language, default), Español or English.
- MusicVolume: music volume.
- AmbientVolume: volume of the ambient and weather loops.
- SfxVolume: overall volume of your sound effects (above 1 amplifies them).
- RotateTracks: if a list has several songs, they take turns.
- NoRepeatSongs: NoRepeatLast (never the same song twice in a row), ShuffleBag (every song plays before any repeats) or Off.
- AutoReload: automatic reload while you edit your files.
- DetectorDistance: maximum distance of the sounds shown by the detector (default 60 m).
- DetectorQuietTime: seconds of silence before the detector shows a repeated sound again (default 15).
- The aicho.customaudio.cfg file is created automatically the first time you start the game.
Compatibility
-
Don't use it together with Aedenthorn's Custom Audio: both do the same thing and the game only loads one. Your folders from that mod work directly with this one.
-
Other mods that replace the game's music or sounds might conflict with this one.
⚡ I hope you enjoy it ⚡

- Formatos aceptados: .wav, .ogg y .mp3.
| Music/ lista / (menu, meadows, blackforest, home, combat, boss_eikthyr...) | La música de ese lugar o momento. |
(ej. Rain_loop) |
| SFX/groundtorch, walltorch, fire_pit, bonfire, hearth, portal | Los bucles de antorchas, hogueras, chimenea y portal. |
| Ambient/ocean y Ambient/wind | El sonido del océano y del viento. |
Sonidos nuevos (que el juego no tiene)
| Carpeta 📁 | Cuándo suena |
|---|---|
| SFX/_map_open/ | Al abrir el mapa |
| SFX/_map_closed/ | Al cerrar el mapa (si no existe, usa el de abrir) |
| SFX/_chat_open/ | Al abrir el chat con Enter |
| SFX/_chat_send/ | Al enviar un mensaje |
| SFX/_chat_closed/ | Al cerrar el chat sin enviar |
| SFX/equip tipo / | Al equipar un tipo de objeto: sword, axe, battleaxe, club, sledge, knife, spear, atgeir, bow, crossbow, staff, pickaxe, fist, shield, torch, tool, helmet, chest, legs, cape, utility, trinket, ammo |
| SFX/equip Objeto / | Al equipar un objeto concreto (ej. _equip_SwordIron). Tiene prioridad sobre el tipo. |
| SFX/unequip tipo u Objeto / | Al guardar el arma u objeto |
Volumen y frecuencia: settings.txt
volume = 1.5
frequency = 0.5
| Opción ⚙️ | Accion |
|---|---|
| volume | Volumen de esa carpeta: 1 = normal, 0.5 = la mitad, 2 = el doble (máximo 10). |
