Pedal Bike 0.1.11

A timber bicycle built on Valheim's native Cart physics foundation, with one rider, stamina-powered pedaling and an 8-slot rear chest. Build it with Wood x20 + Bronze Nails x5 using the normal Hammer, Crafting category, within Workbench range.

Native cart foundation

This release retains the actual Cart wheel rigidbodies, convex wheel colliders, contact materials and axle joints. The wheel track is adapted to fit under the bicycle, while its visible frame, saddle, handlebars, pedals and cargo chest use the bicycle model. Chassis mass and linear damping come from the installed Cart prefab, with a lower center of mass and additional angular damping for the narrower bicycle.

A local kinematic pull point uses the native Vagon linear spring/lock arrangement in place of the walking runner. The rider remains seated. Pedaling supplies bounded assistance to the dynamic chassis; native wheels, joints, gravity and collision response determine its actual movement. The old direct-position bicycle drivetrain has been removed from the release. The Vagon walking interaction is replaced by the bicycle controls and owner reservation.

Actual wheel collision contacts provide ground support, with independent ground probes as fallback. Only the authorized simulation owner drives the chassis. Other peers receive native synchronized poses and do not run duplicate dynamic wheel simulation. The attached rider's collision pairs are temporarily excluded from their own bicycle, then restored on dismount.

Steering and slopes

  • Front wheel and handlebars steer up to 30 degrees, with a smooth input response.
  • Steering uses a horizontal world-up heading. Side slopes do not directly rotate the requested steering direction downhill.
  • The physical cart chassis can respond naturally to the ground. The visible bicycle and seated rider stay upright independently of chassis roll.
  • Cosmetic corner lean is limited to 8 degrees. Terrain pitch is smoothed and limited to 25 degrees. These visual angles do not steer the vehicle.
  • Pull-point yaw commands and actual chassis yaw are limited to 48 degrees/second to avoid abrupt high-speed turning.
  • Pedaling targets remain 37 km/h normally and 42 km/h with Shift. The ground-speed ceiling is 42 km/h. Turning and slope target reductions remain at most 2 km/h combined.

There is no artificial cap on total hill elevation. Traction, native collision geometry, stamina and joint response still matter. Steep obstacles and vertical cliffs can block a cart-based vehicle. This release does not promise that every mountain face is traversable at full speed.

Controls

Input Action
E at the saddle Right the bicycle and mount
W Pedal forward
S Brake, then continue holding to backpedal
A / D Steer left / right, up to 30 degrees
Shift + W Sprint pedal using more stamina
Release W / S Coast under native physics
E while riding Dismount
E at the rear chest Open cargo while unoccupied
Mouse / mouse wheel Look around / adjust camera distance

Normal pedaling costs 3 stamina/second, sprint 7/second, before world modifiers. Braking and coasting do not spend pedaling stamina. Backpedaling target is 3 km/h. A short controls message appears on mounting; there is no custom speed/stamina HUD.

Collision, parking and saved bicycles

Native dynamic collisions now handle rolling and contact separation instead of the old broad box-sweep stop path. Chassis impacts add a small bounded pull-point recoil. Solid trees, poles and buildings remain solid. Fully enclosed or very tight geometry may still prevent escape; obstacles are not deleted or damaged by recovery code.

A supported stopped bicycle holds its pull point as a parking stand/brake. Without ground support, that pull joint is released and the native bodies fall under gravity. Every authorized mount rights the chassis and resets the native wheel poses before attaching the player.

The existing prefab/GUID, recipe, centered handlebar, one-rider layout, native saved cargo, ward checks and controls are preserved. Cargo is 4 x 2 slots. Dismount before opening it, and empty the chest before dismantling. Starting health remains 600.

Install or update

  1. Close Valheim and select your Valheim profile in Thunderstore Mod Manager.
  2. Install BepInExPack_Valheim by denikson and Jotunn by ValheimModding if missing.
  3. Open Settings > Profile > Import local mod, then select PedalBike-0.1.11.zip without extracting it. Use Import local mod, not Import profile.
  4. If metadata is requested: name Pedal_Bike, author Arioh, version 0.1.11.
  5. Keep one active PedalBike.dll. Disable/remove the previous local bike entry if importing creates a second entry. Launch Modded and reload the world.

Existing bicycles use the new prefab components after reload; their cargo/save identity is retained. Do not delete your configuration. The existing one-time speed migration already supplies 37/42 defaults for older profiles.

Manual/server path: BepInEx/plugins/PedalBike/PedalBike.dll. Install the dependencies separately.

Multiplayer and public upload

Use 0.1.11 on every player's profile and on the host/dedicated server, with both dependencies. Start Server hosts launch Modded. Friends can import this same ZIP. Matching patch versions are required through Jotunn.

The same ZIP can be uploaded under the existing Arioh / Pedal_Bike team/name in the Thunderstore Valheim community to add 0.1.11. The manifest and compiled plugin versions match. No automatic installation or public upload was performed.

Configuration

File: BepInEx/config/arioh.valheim.pedalbike.cfg.

Pedaling setting Default
CruiseSpeedKmh 37
SprintSpeedKmh 42
PedalStaminaPerSecond 3
SprintStaminaPerSecond 7

Host/admin values are synchronized. Normal speed is limited to 4-37 km/h and sprint to 6-42 km/h, at least the normal setting. Compatibility / RideModelRevision records the existing speed migration.

Validation and current limits

Built against installed Valheim 1.0.20, Unity 6000.0.75, BepInEx 5.4.23.5 and Jotunn 2.30.2. The native Cart hierarchy, wheel body/axle configuration and Vagon.AttachTo implementation were inspected from the installed game. No game DLLs, meshes, textures or serialized asset dumps are bundled.

Release compilation, installed native API resolution and compiled integration checks pass. Production rule tests cover 30-degree steering, bounded yaw/lean, speed targets, stamina and authorization. The new pull-planner tests cover bounded lead, forward/reverse, slope-independent yaw, preserved horizontal heading and upright recovery using numerics adapters.

These offline checks do not simulate native Unity wheel joints or prove live cart handling. Version 0.1.11 has not yet been played in Valheim or tested with two connected players. Real terrain traction, stability at 37/42 km/h, rider alignment and network interpolation need in-game verification.

Check BepInEx/LogOutput.log for Pedal Bike 0.1.11 loading and Pedal Bike ready. Movement diagnostics use motor=native-cart-joint, with measured actual displacement and speed. The old position-motor test results are historical and are not claimed as validation of this drivetrain.
