🌸 Balrond Flower Painter

Paint grass, flowers and other clutter directly with the Cultivator

Balrond Flower Painter 0.1.0 lets you use Valheim's detected clutter vegetation as paintable entries in the Cultivator.

Choose a flower, grass, bush or other supported clutter entry, adjust your brush and paint it directly onto the terrain.

The mod automatically discovers supported clutter available in the running game, including vegetation added by other mods.

Important before you start

Multiplayer

Install the same Balrond Flower Painter version on the server and every client.

If another mod provides some of the vegetation you want to paint, that mod should also be installed in compatible versions for everyone who needs to see and use that vegetation.

Configuration is local

Flower Painter does not synchronize its config.

Each player can choose their own preferred default brush size and density.

Your local config only controls how your brush starts when you begin painting. It does not force the same settings on other players.

How to use Flower Painter

  1. Equip the Cultivator.
  2. Open the Cultivator build menu.
  3. Find the Flower Painter entries in the Misc category.
  4. Select the grass, flower, bush or other clutter you want to paint.
  5. Move the green brush circle over the terrain.
  6. Click normally to paint.

You can paint over the same area multiple times if you want a thicker or denser result.

Flower Painter intentionally allows you to place vegetation where you want it. A flower that naturally appears only in one biome can still be manually painted somewhere else.

Brush controls

Input Action
Normal build / place input Paint selected vegetation
Ctrl + Mouse Wheel Increase or decrease brush radius
Shift + Mouse Wheel Increase or decrease vegetation density

While changing Flower Painter radius or density, the mouse wheel is used by the brush and does not zoom the camera.

Current ranges:

Radius: 0.5 m – 20 m
Density: 0.25x – 8x

The green circle shows the current area that will be painted.

Radius

A larger radius paints a larger area.

The mod automatically increases the number of vegetation instances for larger brushes, so increasing radius does not simply stretch the same small amount of grass over a huge area.

Density

Density controls how much vegetation is painted inside the selected area.

Examples:

0.5x = sparse
1.0x = normal
2.0x = dense
4.0x+ = very dense

You can also simply paint the same place again to add more vegetation.

Clear Flower Paint

Clear Flower Paint is the first Flower Painter entry added to the Cultivator menu.

It uses the normal Cultivator icon so it is easy to recognize.

Select it to erase vegetation that was previously painted with Flower Painter.

Controls

Ctrl + Mouse Wheel = change clear radius

The clear tool uses the same circular brush system as painting.

When Clear Flower Paint is active, Flower Painter shows red indicators at the locations of painted clutter patches that are inside or near the area you are working with.

This makes it easier to see which painted areas can be affected before you clear them.

The tool can remove only part of a painted patch. You do not need to delete the whole area at once.

Cleared vegetation stays cleared after saving and loading the world.

Clear Flower Paint does not remove Valheim's naturally generated clutter. It only affects vegetation painted through Flower Painter.

Cultivator icons

Flower Painter automatically tries to create an icon for every detected vegetation entry.

It uses the following simple fallback system:

  1. Try to generate a preview from the vegetation.
  2. If that does not work, try another normal visual preview method.
  3. If a useful preview still cannot be created, use a generated flower glyph.

This means supported vegetation should still have a recognizable menu entry even when its original prefab cannot produce a normal icon.

The Clear Flower Paint entry uses the standard Cultivator icon.

Detected vegetation

Flower Painter reads the clutter available in the running game.

This means it can work with:

  • vanilla Valheim clutter
  • Balrond vegetation
  • vegetation from other compatible mods
  • normal flowers and bushes
  • GPU-instanced grass and flower clutter

Flower Painter uses the detected clutter's original appearance, including its material, proportions and scale behavior.

If two plants use the same basic mesh but have different materials or sizes, Flower Painter keeps them as separate entries when they exist as separate clutter definitions.

Configuration

Configuration file:

BepInEx/config/balrond.astafaraios.BalrondFlowerPainter.cfg

Flower Painter intentionally keeps the public config very small.

[Painting]

DefaultBrushRadius = 4

DefaultBrushDensity = 2

DefaultBrushRadius

Default:

4

Controls the brush radius used when Flower Painter starts.

You can change it at any time in game with:

Ctrl + Mouse Wheel

DefaultBrushDensity

Default:

2

Controls the starting vegetation density.

You can change it at any time in game with:

Shift + Mouse Wheel

Do all players need the same config?

No.

The config is a personal preference.

For example:

Player A:
Radius 3
Density 1

Player B:
Radius 8
Density 3

Both can play together normally.

The mod itself must still be installed on the server and all clients.

Installation

Thunderstore / mod manager

Install Balrond Flower Painter with your preferred Thunderstore-compatible mod manager.

For multiplayer, install the same mod version on:

  • the server / dedicated server
  • every participating client

Manual installation

  1. Install BepInEx for Valheim.

  2. Copy BalrondFlowerPainter.dll into:

    BepInEx/plugins/BalrondFlowerPainter/

  3. Start Valheim.

  4. The config will be created automatically at:

    BepInEx/config/balrond.astafaraios.BalrondFlowerPainter.cfg

  5. For multiplayer, install the same Flower Painter version on the server and all clients.

Compatibility

Flower Painter discovers vegetation from Valheim's active clutter list when the game starts.

Mods that add their vegetation to Valheim's normal clutter system should generally be available to Flower Painter automatically.

If another mod completely replaces the Cultivator, its build menu, or dynamically changes clutter after startup, compatibility can depend on that mod's implementation and load order.

For modded vegetation, make sure the mod providing those plants is installed wherever it is required in multiplayer.

FAQ

Where do I find Flower Painter?

Equip the Cultivator and open its build menu.

Flower Painter entries are placed in the Misc category.

Why is Flower Painter not in the Hoe?

Flower Painter is intentionally a Cultivator feature.

Keeping the vegetation catalog in one tool avoids duplicating a very large list of plants in both build menus.

Can I paint several times in the same place?

Yes.

Painting the same area again adds another vegetation pass and is the easiest way to make a specific area thicker or denser.

Can I paint plants outside their normal biome?

Yes.

Flower Painter is a manual decoration tool. If you select a plant, the mod assumes you intentionally want to paint it at the selected location.

Why does one plant have a flower-symbol icon?

Some clutter cannot produce a useful menu preview.

Flower Painter tries to generate a normal icon first. If it cannot, it uses a generated flower glyph instead of leaving the menu slot blank.

How do I remove painted grass or flowers?

Select Clear Flower Paint from the Cultivator.

Use:

Ctrl + Mouse Wheel

to change the erase radius, then clear the area normally.

Red indicators help show the locations of Flower Painter patches that can be affected.

Does Clear Flower Paint remove natural grass?

No.

It only removes clutter that was painted using Flower Painter.

Do I need the same config as the server?

No.

Radius and density defaults are local player preferences.

The mod itself must still be installed on the server and clients.

Can different players use different brush sizes?

Yes.

Every player can use their own preferred radius and density.

Does Flower Painter work with modded vegetation?

Yes, when that vegetation is available through Valheim's clutter system and Flower Painter detects it.

The mod providing that vegetation must still be installed where required.

Bug reports and support

For support and bug reports:

Balrond's Den — Discord

When reporting a problem, please include:

  1. Balrond Flower Painter version
  2. Valheim version
  3. Complete BepInEx log
  4. Full mod list or profile code
  5. Single-player, local host or dedicated server
  6. Name of the affected plant if the problem happens only with one clutter entry
  7. Screenshot if the issue is visual

For loading, multiplayer or missing-entry problems, the complete BepInEx log is usually more useful than a screenshot alone.
