Twenty metres is a long way down. At a ledge or mid-fall, Odin shows the drop and the damage the landing will do beside your crosshair, and says so when it would kill you. Client-side. From the makers of Odin's Raven Returns.
First release: a small readout shows the drop and the damage the landing will do.
Red when the landing would kill you.
Style (BesideCrosshair): two short lines just left of the crosshair, the drop
("12 m") and the damage ("~50 dmg"). BelowCrosshair puts one line under the
crosshair instead, with the health you'd have left as well.
At a ledge (ShowAtLedge, on): standing at an edge and looking down over a drop of at
least MinDrop (4 m).
While falling (ShowWhileFalling, on): once you've dropped MinDrop, measured from the
top of the fall, as the game measures it.
The game's own fall-damage sums: free up to 4 m, rising to 100 at 20 m, with the Feather
Cape and other landing-softening effects, and the world's damage setting, counted as the
game counts them.
When the landing would kill you, Odin says so in one line, once per drop (WarnIfFatal, on).
TextScale (1, 0.5 to 2) sizes the readout and Odin's line. At 1 they follow the
game's own HUD scale (screen height and the game's GUI scale setting), so they stay the
same size on ultrawide screens.
Ledges off cliffs, rocks with rounded edges, and player-built floors, walls and roofs
are found reliably. Slopes too steep to stand on (over SlopeAngle, 38°, the game's
own limit) count as part of the drop, followed along the crosshair to where they level
out. Walkable slopes don't count.
LookDownAngle (14°): how far down you look before the ledge readout checks.
