Valheim Casino

Valheim Casino

Build casino tables in your hall and gamble your coins with friends. Every game is played with Valheim's own Coins. Building costs nothing but wood (and stone for the hall buildings), so anyone can open a casino.

Games

Open the Hammer, go to Furniture, and place one of these. Every table and slot machine comes with its own seats.

Piece Cost How it plays
Coin Flip Table 10 Wood Everyone at the table bets Heads or Tails on one shared coin.
Blackjack Table 10 Wood Everyone plays the same dealer hand at once. Hit or stand.
Slot Machine 10 Wood One player at a time. Three reels, five symbols, and a shared progressive jackpot.
Ride the Bus Table 10 Wood Everyone rides together through four card rounds. Cash out any time from round two.
Craps Table 15 Wood One shooter throws the dice for the whole table. Bet the Pass Line and take it from there.
Roulette Table 15 Wood A single-zero wheel. Everyone places chips, then the ball is spun for the whole table.
Video Poker on the Mead Bar Two machines at one end of the bar, one player each. Jacks or Better: hold the cards you want and draw once.

Look and feel

Every table has its own Norse-themed model: a longhouse slot machine, a felted D-shaped blackjack table, a fur-rimmed coin flip table with a real thrown coin, a Ride the Bus longship, a long craps tub with real thrown dice, and a roulette table whose wheel is crowned by Jormungand, the World Serpent. Lanterns light the tables at night, and the build menu icons are drawn from the actual models.

  • Cards on the felt. Blackjack and Ride the Bus deal real cards onto the table. The dealer's second card lies face down until the hand ends.
  • Stakes on the felt. Each bet is a pile of coins in front of your chair. It grows when you win and slides to the house when you lose.
  • Hugin at your table. When you join a hand of blackjack or Ride the Bus, the raven from the tutorial lands on the far rail of the table, facing you, and stays until you leave. Only you see your own raven.
  • Seats that belong to the table. Carved chairs at the tables and a high-backed throne at each slot machine. Remove the table and its seats go with it.
  • A betting panel. At roulette and craps, E opens a panel laid out like the felt: click a bet to put a chip on it. When the wheel spins or the dice are thrown, every panel at the table closes with a call of "No more bets!"

Roulette Table

A European wheel with a single zero, turning slowly while anyone is near, with the World Serpent coiled round its spindle. Bets stay open for a few seconds after the first chip goes down, then the ball is spun and lands in its pocket on the wheel.

Video Poker

Two Jacks or Better machines stand at one end of the Mead Bar, each with its own throne. The machine holds the cards worth keeping for you; change them if you like, then draw. The cards turn over one by one as they are dealt and drawn, your hand is lit on the paytable, and a winning hand flashes. The screens light up at night.

The slot jackpot

Every spin adds a coin to a progressive jackpot, and three Odins wins it on top of the usual prize. The sign over each machine shows what three Odins pays at that machine's largest bet; a smaller bet wins the same fraction of it.

  • Machines playing with infinite coins share one jackpot across the whole world, so every base feeds the same pot.
  • Machines playing against a House Bank share that bank's own jackpot.

Run your own casino: the House Bank

By default the house has infinite coins. Build a House Bank (10 Wood) and you can be the house instead.

  • Look at a table or slot machine you built and press H to switch it between infinite coins and your bank. It uses your nearest bank within 20 metres and keeps to that bank; if you remove it, the table goes back to infinite coins until you pick again.
  • Stakes are paid into the bank and winnings are paid out of it. A bet is only accepted if the bank can cover it.
  • E deposits and Shift + E withdraws. Only the bank's builder (or a server admin) can see the balance, open it or remove it, and it can't be damaged.

Hall decor

Eight pieces for dressing the room, also under Furniture:

Piece Cost What it is
Casino Sign 15 Wood A carved board on a post with Fehu, the rune of wealth, in gold. Lit by its own lantern.
Hall Lantern 5 Wood A tall iron stand with two hanging lanterns.
Velvet Rope 4 Wood Two gold posts and a red rope. Place them end to end.
Hall Runner 2 Wood A long red carpet with a gold border.
Hall Chandelier 6 Wood An iron ring of six lanterns. Fix it to a beam or ceiling and it hangs below.
Cashier's Cage 30 Wood A teller's booth behind iron bars, with two windows and a CASHIER sign. Collect your held winnings here; walk in at the back, where a House Bank fits.
Mead Bar 30 Wood A long counter with tankards and a mead horn, a rack of barrels and drinks behind under a woven night mural, and two video poker machines at one end.
High Rollers' Board 20 Wood A notice board that names the five biggest wins in your world, each player's best. Look at it for the full names and the game.

Build a casino hall

Four larger pieces, also under Furniture, that fit together. They are built from wood and stone.

Piece Cost What it is
Gaming Pavilion 60 Wood, 30 Stone A cloth canopy on six carved posts over a carpeted floor, big enough for two tables and all their chairs. Works indoors or out.
Casino Doors 30 Wood, 12 Stone A pair of tall doors glazed with amber glass behind a gold lattice. They swing away from whoever opens them.
Glazed Wall 24 Wood, 12 Stone The same glass and lattice as the doors, as a fixed wall.
Tapestry Wall 24 Wood, 12 Stone A solid wall hung on both sides with a night tapestry of a wolf, a longship and the World Serpent.
  • Doors and walls are 6 metres wide and 4 tall, exactly one bay of a pavilion, and snap in between its posts. They also fit a wall opening three panels wide and two high.
  • Pavilions snap to each other side by side or end to end. Where two meet, the edge trim between them is left off so they read as one canopy.
  • On uneven ground the posts, floor edge and door frames carry down to the ground wherever it falls away.

Sounds

Every game has sound: coins going down, cards being dealt, the coin landing, the dice hitting the table, the slot lever and reels, and wins and losses, mostly using Valheim's own sound effects. Idle slot machines also play short casino jingles every few seconds, so a row of machines sounds like a casino floor.

Controls

Sit in a seat, aim at the table, and use the prompt that appears.

  • Coin Flip: E bets Heads, Shift + E bets Tails. The flip happens after a short lobby countdown so others can join.
  • Blackjack: E sits in, then E hits and Shift + E stands once cards are dealt. On your first two cards, K doubles down and, with a pair, L splits; each takes a second stake. A turn timer forces a stand if you wait.
  • Slots: E spins, Shift + E changes your bet.
  • Ride the Bus: E sits in. Each round, Shift + E cycles the highlighted option and E locks it in. From round two the last option is Cash out. Anyone who doesn't pick in time cashes out.
  • Craps: E opens the betting panel. Click a bet to add a chip; bets you can't make yet are greyed out. The shooter clicks "Throw the dice" when ready; there is no clock. Escape closes the panel.
  • Roulette: E opens the betting panel. Click any number or outside bet to add a chip, or take your bets back before the spin. The wheel is spun a few seconds after the first chip goes down. Escape closes the panel.
  • Video Poker: E deals and Shift + E changes your bet. Once dealt, Shift + E moves along the cards and the draw button and E holds or lets go of a card, or draws. Pressing E twice plays the machine's suggestion.
  • Your own tables: H switches the house between infinite coins and your House Bank.
  • Big wins: coins that don't fit in your pack are held for you. Collect them once you have room at the Cashier's Cage (E), or by looking at any casino table and pressing J.

Payouts

  • Coin Flip: A win returns 1.9x your bet.
  • Blackjack: A win pays 1:1, a natural blackjack pays 3:2, a push returns your bet. Dealer stands on all 17s. Double down on any first two cards (one more card, then you stand). Split a pair once; split aces get one card each, and 21 on a split hand pays 1:1. No insurance.
  • Slots: Weighted reels like a real machine, returning about 97% over time with a win on roughly 3 spins in 10. Three of a kind pays your bet times 4 (Stag), 6 (Raven), 15 (Axe), 25 (Rune) or 250 (Odin). Any two Stags pay 2x. Three Odins also wins the progressive jackpot.
  • Ride the Bus: Four rounds: red or black, higher or lower, inside or outside, then the suit. Ace is high and ties lose. Clearing 1, 2, 3 and 4 rounds returns 2x, 2.5x, 3.5x and 12x your bet, fixed whatever you picked, so smart picks and good cash-out timing pay off. A wrong guess loses the stake. Everyone at the table sees what each rider is doing.
  • Craps: Nobody can throw until the shooter has bet the Pass Line or Don't Pass, and the dice pass on a seven-out. Pass Line and Don't Pass pay 1:1 (12 is barred on Don't Pass). Odds behind a line bet, up to three times it, pay the true odds. The Field pays 1:1 for one roll and double on 2 and 12. Place bets on 6 and 8 pay 7:6 on every hit until a seven. Hardways pay when the number comes as a pair before it comes any other way or a seven: hard 4 and 10 pay 7:1, hard 6 and 8 pay 9:1, and they are off on the come-out roll. Winnings are rounded down to whole coins.
  • Roulette: European single-zero wheel. A single number pays 35:1; red or black, odd or even, 1-18 or 19-36 pay 1:1; a dozen or a column pays 2:1. About 97% comes back over time.
  • Video Poker: Jacks or Better, paid as a multiple of your bet with the stake included: Royal Flush 250, Straight Flush 50, Four of a Kind 25, Full House 9, Flush 6, Straight 4, Three of a Kind 3, Two Pair 2, a pair of Jacks or better 1 (your stake back). About 98% comes back with perfect play, a little less playing the machine's suggestions. A hand left alone for a while is drawn for you.

Configuration

A config file is created in BepInEx/config/com.blueshiftsoftware.valheimcasino.cfg the first time you run the game.

  • Set by the server: lobby time, turn timers, bet sizes, payouts, maximum players, whether you must be seated, how many coins each spin adds to the jackpot (JackpotPerSpin), the craps and roulette chip sizes and chip limits, how long roulette bets stay open, the video poker bets, paytable and idle time, and how close a House Bank must be (Radius). On a server these come from the server and only admins can change them.
  • Your own: the H, J, K and L keys, whether the raven visits you (Raven), seat distances, how far the slot and video poker hover text drops (HoverTextDrop), the build menu icons (RenderIcons, IconSize, IconRotation), and the sounds (the Sounds section: on or off, overall volume, slot machine volume, dice volume, how often and how loudly the slot jingles play, and which Valheim sound each event uses).

Bet sizes are set when a table is built, so changes apply to new tables.

Multiplayer

Every player on the server needs this mod installed, at the same version. The player who owns a table in the world acts as the dealer. If they disconnect mid-hand, that hand's stakes are lost.

Known limitations

  • Coins are added and removed on each player's own client, so a modified client could cheat.
  • Tables built with an earlier version lose their old loose chairs the first time they load, in favour of the new built-in seats.
  • A Mead Bar or Cashier's Cage built with an earlier version takes on its new, larger size, so check it still fits your hall.
  • The pavilion's floor is flat: on a slope it stands proud on the low side, and where the ground rises higher than the floor it pokes through. Level the ground first.
