Eggs filling the whole chest because the wolf meat ran out? Wood swallowing your last free slots on every trip? Give a slot a mode: it keeps its item, or it is reserved for one item only.
New in 2.0.0: two slot modes, in your inventory and in every chest (the same for every player), a menu of known items for empty slots, an animated help with a simulator, and a new look.
The two modes
- Mode 1, kept (cyan frame, lock "1"): the item stays in its slot. Sorting, Place stacks, quick stack and store all leave it alone, and the slot stays reserved for its item even when empty. Once it is full, extra items go to free slots as usual.
- Mode 2, reserved (gold frame, lock "2"): the slot takes only its item. Once your mode 2 slots for an item are full, automatic transfers stop there: no more auto pickup of that item, no more middle click or vacuum of it into that chest. Exceptions: a mode 1 slot for the same item, or a stack of it you already put in a free slot.
- Free: no rule, as in the game.
How to use it
- Open your inventory (or a chest), hover a slot and press K (configurable): free, mode 1, mode 2, then free again.
- On an empty free slot, K opens the menu of known items: search, then left click for mode 1, right click for mode 2.
- An empty reserved slot shows the item it waits for as a ghost, under the chains and the lock of the mod's icon.
Animated help
The glowing ? Help button, right of your inventory's top corner, opens a help window in your game's language:
- The modes: three animated cards (free, mode 1, mode 2) and the filling order.
- Simulator: a small bag, two chests and loot on the ground, run by the mod's real rules. Change a slot with K, press Place stacks, Take all or auto pickup, click the loot: items fly where the game would put them, a log says why. Nothing touches your real items.
- Situations: six cases replayed step by step (copper and its kept slot, flint with a quota, wood at pickup, resin that stays put, a chest shared by everyone, chests pulling loot).
- Keys, and a tooltip on every slot and button.
Everything that only exists with OttoStash is marked in purple. The button glows until you open the help once; HelpButton = false hides it.
Where items go
When an item comes in (auto pickup, Place stacks, OttoStash's middle click or vacuum, InventorySlots' quick stack), it fills:
- its mode 2 slots,
- then its mode 1 slots,
- then free slots, when allowed: in a chest, only if the chest has a mode 1 slot for it or already holds it in a free slot; in your inventory, unless it has mode 2 slots and nowhere else to go.
A chest with a slot reserved for an item accepts that item even when it holds none of it. A slot reserved for another item is never taken, not even by hand: dropping another item there is refused. Your own moves (drag, shift click, take all, crafting) can always use free slots.
Chests are shared
A chest's slot modes are saved in the world, so every player sees and follows the same rules. Install the mod on every player and on the server.
Works with
- OttoStash (optional: SlotLock works on its own with the game's Place stacks, Take all and auto pickup): OttoStash adds storing into every nearby chest at once (store key, middle click) and chests pulling in loot. A slot of your inventory in mode 1 or 2 is also an OttoStash favorite slot, so its store leaves it alone; its middle click and vacuum follow the chest's modes.
- InventorySlots: its sort (your inventory and chests) leaves set slots in place and puts each reserved item back in its slot; its quick stack fills chests in the same order.
Coming from 1.x
Your locked slots become mode 1 slots, with the same reserved items. To give a slot another item, use K or the menu: dropping another item into a reserved slot is now refused.
