EquipmentSlots

Armour, jewellery and six quick slots get places of their own — a character sheet next to the inventory, instead of rows stolen from your backpack.

An item is worn exactly while it sits in its slot. Drag a helmet into the helmet cell and it is on your head; drag it out and it is off. No more hunting through a full inventory for the piece you are wearing.

The panel

Between the inventory and the crafting panel, drawn with vanilla's own cells and frames, with your character standing in the middle wearing what you put on (Panel.ShowCharacter turns the figure off):

  • Equipment — helmet, chest, legs, cape, belt, trinket, amulet, two rings, two earrings, and an ammo slot for the arrows or bolts you are shooting.
  • Quick slots — six cells for anything at all.
  • Quiver — three ammo-only cells, shown only when Better Archery's quiver is worn.
  • Did not fit — a parking place that appears only while something is in it, and empties itself into your inventory as soon as there is room. Nothing is ever destroyed.

Empty slots show a faded icon and name themselves in the tooltip. A slot takes only what belongs in it; anything else is refused and stays on the cursor. Right-click an item in the inventory and it goes to its slot (the piece it replaces takes its place); right-click it in the panel and it goes back to the grid.

Quick slots

Z / V / B use slots 1–3, the same keys with Left Alt use slots 4–6 — every key rebindable. Pressing one is exactly like pressing a hotbar key: eat, drink, equip, unequip, or use on what you are looking at.

The HUD draws three of them next to the forsaken power, in the same style: key above, item, stack below, and the frame lights up while the item is worn or held. Hold Alt and the HUD shows the other three.

Vanilla's V (auto-pickup) steps aside while a quick-slot key is pressed, and "Place stacks" into a chest leaves quick slots and quiver alone.

Death, graves and bodies

Death drops everything into the grave exactly as vanilla does — the grave simply grows by a row if it needs to. Slot items remember where they came from: when you take them back, each one returns to its slot and your gear goes back on. Anyone else looting the grave just gets ordinary items. Upgrading a worn piece at a workbench keeps it in its slot.

Coming from EquipmentAndQuickSlots

Remove EAQS first — next to it this mod switches itself off on purpose (both would own the same keys, the same panel and the same death handling), and says so in the log.

On the first load without EAQS your character is converted: quick slots 1–6, helmet, chest, legs, cape, belt, trinket and Better Archery's quiver move into the matching slot here; EAQS's extra belt slots, its extra rows and everything else go into free inventory cells. Nothing is deleted.

Do not go back to EAQS with a converted character — it does not know these slots, and vanilla drops whatever sits outside the grid at your feet.

Jewellery slots

Vanilla has no rings, earrings or amulets, so those four cells are greyed out and say "No jewelry mod installed" until something fills them. They wake up as soon as a jewellery mod registers items, or when the prefab names are listed in the Jewelry section of the config (admin-only, synced from the server). Worn jewellery adds its armour and its equip status effect like any other piece.

Mod authors: EquipmentSlotsApi.GetWornJewelry(humanoid, list) returns what a character is wearing, so a jewellery mod can give its items stats of their own.

Installation and removal

  1. Install BepInExPack Valheim and Jötunn, and remove EquipmentAndQuickSlots.
  2. Drop CDEV.EquipmentSlots.dll into BepInEx/plugins/CDEV.EquipmentSlots/ — a mod manager does it for you.

Before you uninstall it, empty the slots. The slots are cells of your own inventory that live below the grid; without the mod vanilla drops everything down there at your feet the next time you spawn. Take your gear back into the backpack first and nothing is lost.

Multiplayer

  • A client mod. Nothing crosses the network: the slots are cells of your own character, saved with it as always.
  • A server that has the mod requires it from every client (Jötunn ClientMustHaveMod) — a client without it would drop the slot items on the ground at every spawn. Servers without the mod accept everyone.
  • The server needs the mod only for that check and to sync the Jewelry lists.

Compatibility

  • Better Archery 2.0.0 — its quiver is hosted in three ammo-only cells, and it is told an inventory mod is present, so it adds no rows of its own.
  • QuickStackStore — sort, store, quick stack and trash never touch the slots; restock may refill quick slots.
  • MouseTweaks — right-clicks on the panel go through the vanilla path, so it works there too.
  • EquipmentAndQuickSlots — not together; this mod stands down next to it.
  • Gamepad — the panel has no gamepad navigation yet.

Settings, languages, commands

BepInEx/config/cdev.equipmentslots.cfg: the three quick-slot keys and the Alt modifier, the HUD (on/off, offset, spacing), the panel (offset, show the character), and the admin-only Jewelry lists.

Texts in 22 languages — English, Russian, Ukrainian, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese (BR and PT), Polish, Czech, Hungarian, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish, Turkish, Chinese (simplified and traditional), Japanese and Korean. Changing the game's language relabels the panel at once.

Console (F5): es_selftest checks the slot rules, the EAQS conversion and graves on scratch inventories with negative controls, without touching your character; es_dump logs the panel, the HUD and what is in each slot.
