PavedRoadAnywhere
Removes only the Stonecutter requirement from Valheim Paved Road. Stone cost and normal placement rules remain vanilla.Paved Road Anywhere
A deliberately tiny Valheim client-side BepInEx/Harmony mod.
What it does
Exactly one gameplay change:
- Removes the crafting-station requirement from the vanilla Paved Road Hoe action, allowing it to be used without a nearby Stonecutter.
Everything else remains vanilla:
- Still costs 1 Stone.
- Does not unlock Paved Road early.
- Does not alter Hoe stamina use.
- Does not alter terrain behavior.
- Does not change movement speed or stamina on roads.
- Does not affect Hammer pieces.
- Does not patch Frelsi Hammer.
- Does not patch BuildCamera.
- Adds no items, prefabs, RPCs, configuration, or save data.
Targeting
Valheim 1.0.x uses the vanilla Paved Road prefab ID paved_road_v2.
This mod targets that exact prefab in the active build table. The older
paved_road ID is accepted only as a legacy fallback.
If neither exact vanilla ID exists, the mod changes nothing and logs the active piece names for diagnostics.
Multiplayer
The change is local to the Piece definition used for requirement checks. No network protocol, RPC, prefab, or save-data changes are introduced.
Install it on every client that should be able to pave without a nearby Stonecutter. If a server-side mod or future Valheim version adds an independent server validation for this action, that validation can still reject placement.
Expected test
- Start Valheim with PavedRoadAnywhere enabled.
- Unlock the Stonecutter/Paved Road normally.
- Put at least 1 Stone in your inventory.
- Move well outside every Stonecutter radius.
- Equip the Hoe.
- Select Paved Road.
- Pave the ground.
- Confirm exactly 1 Stone is consumed.
- Confirm ordinary Pathen/Level Ground behavior is unchanged.
- Confirm Frelsi Hammer + BuildCamera still behave as before.
Expected BepInEx log line:
Paved Road found; its crafting-station requirement was removed.
If semantic discovery fails, the mod logs a warning and leaves vanilla behavior untouched.
