World Control 2.5.4

By DezzyCode

An admin window for the world itself: time of day, weather, wind, the game's own random events, the players on the server, and a line you can put on everybody's screen. Every setting is shared by all players. Only server admins and the local host may change anything.

The window speaks English and German. Switch it with the button at the bottom left, or leave it on Auto to follow the game.

What it does

Press F8. The window has one tab per subject, and what you set there is a draft until you press Apply everything, which sends time, weather and wind to the server in one go. Everything back to natural ends every override at once.

Time

  • Natural — the ordinary day and night cycle.
  • Hold — keeps the time of day where you want it, smoothed by the game. The world clock carries on, so crafting and world age are untouched.
  • Fast-forward — winds the world clock on to the next time you picked, once, and then lets it run. An earlier hour means the next day. This is a jump in world time: crafting, plants and world age move with it, and it stays in the save.

Weather

Natural, Clear, Rain, Thunderstorm and Fog. Natural uses whatever the biome would do. Profiles this version of the game does not have are greyed out, and the server checks the choice as well.

Wind

Natural or Manual, 0–359° and 0–100 % strength. The game's own floor is 5 %, even at 0. Direction means the way the wind blows towards: north 0°, east 90°, south 180°, west 270°. Manual wind takes the same path as the wind console command and therefore also overrides special cases such as Moder's weather and the edge of the world.

Events

Every random event the game knows, listed with the biome it belongs to and the line it announces itself with — "Mistlands – What's that sound?" rather than army_gjall. Both come out of the game's own translations, so they read in the language you play in. Start the chosen one where you stand, stop the running one, or hold new events back: a running event finishes, but nothing follows it. Holding back is a setting like the others and takes effect on Apply. The server log names the internal event, which is the one the event console command wants.

Players

Everyone online, with how far away they are. Bring here puts a player where you stand, Go there puts you where they are. Both directions are decided by the server from the positions it tracks for each connection — never from what a client claims about itself. Whoever is moved is told that an admin moved them. Players without the mod cannot be moved, and the server log says why.

Places

Three spots you can save and walk back to later. A place is yours alone: it holds a position in this world and is named after the land it sits in. Nothing about it reaches the server.

Presets

Three saved settings, each holding time, weather and wind. Loading one fills the window; nothing reaches the server until you apply it. Stored in your own config.

Announce

A line for everybody: it appears in the middle of the screen and in the chat, with your name in front of it. Players without the mod do not see it.

How long an override lasts

Next to Apply everything stands how long the setting should hold: until it is changed, or 15, 30, 60, 120 or 240 minutes. When the time runs out the server puts everything back to natural by itself, and the window counts the remainder down against the world clock every player shares. Whoever sets the weather for an evening is rarely the one who remembers to unset it at two in the morning.

The server also remembers what was set and puts it back when it starts again. A running countdown is not resumed — the hours a server spends offline are not hours anybody meant to include — and neither is a fast-forward, which is a single act rather than a state.

Transitions are the game's

  • Wind uses EnvMan.SetDebugWind, the same path as wind 180 0.2. Direction, strength and the return to normal wind are blended by Valheim. A transition already running is allowed to finish.
  • Weather sets the wanted profile, like env. This mod changes neither the weather nor the wind transition times. Light, clouds and fog follow the game; single particles and sound effects may switch at once, as they do in the game anyway.
  • Held time replaces the target in front of Valheim's own smoothing. The plain tod debug switch would skip that smoothing, which is why it is not used for this.

Server and admin rights

Update the server and every client together. The message format is version 8; older versions of the mod do not sync. The visible change begins on each client when the message arrives and can be slightly apart because of latency.

The server checks every request against the real connection and its own adminlist.txt — never against what a client says about itself. Ordinary players receive the settings but get no window. The local host and single player count as admin. A lost connection closes the window and gives input back.

After connecting there is no polling. A client asks for the state when it joins; if that first question comes too early during loading, it is repeated at most five times, three seconds apart. F8 asks once more when the window opens. Changes are sent by the server to every client that has spoken to it.

Installation

Install denikson's BepInExPack_Valheim and Jotunn 2.30.0 or newer in your Thunderstore or r2modman profile, then import DezzyCode-WorldControl-2.5.4.zip through the local mod import. Use the same DLL and the same dependencies on the server.

Replace an older WorldControl or WindControl DLL; do not install it alongside. Two copies of the same plugin id both load and patch twice. The plugin id and the config file BepInEx/config/dezzycode.valheim.windcontrol.cfg are unchanged. The startup log says World Control 2.5.4 by DezzyCode loaded. Players without the mod get no synced overrides; they are not disconnected for it.

The window writes the presets, the places and the server's state itself. A line edited by hand that cannot be read counts as an empty slot. [Server] State belongs to the installation rather than to one world: whoever runs several worlds on one server gets the values set last in the next one as well.
