CreatureBait
Craft Bait at the Cauldron from trophies and biome foods. Dropped Bait attracts mobs of the trophy's species. Config options and server authoritative.CreatureBait
Lure creatures to the area.
Features
- Craft Bait for a creature species from trophies plus biome's foods.
- Drop to draw that species to the area, wherever you set up.
- Bait only works in biomes where that creature naturally lives.
- Attracted creatures can arrive with stars, adjustable per biome for tougher hunts.
- Each Bait is a consumable: it attracts a set number of creatures, then is used up, and it never lets too many pile up at once.
- In-game bait and creature attracting status updates.
- Multiplayer-ready: the server sets the rules and syncs them to everyone, live.
- Fully removable: with the mod gone, Baits simply become their original trophies.
How it works
Craft a CreatureBait at the Cauldron (early Meadows can also use the Workbench). Drop it in a biome where that creature lives. In the wrong biome it stays inert and you can pick it back up. Its scent disperses for a short while as it settles, then it begins attracting that species nearby. It keeps attracting until it's used up, then disappears. Attracted creatures can come with stars, and they drop loot just like any other.
Recipes
Trophies from Meadows through the Ashlands are supported, and every recipe — the trophy, the foods, and the biomes a Bait requires — can be edited to taste in the yml file (including trophies from custom mods).
Multiplayer
The server is authoritive and pushes settings to all clients. Admins can change settings live in-game.
Configuration
Settings can be edited in a text editor or in-game with Configuration Manager. You can adjust:
- Whether the mod is enabled.
- How long a dropped Bait's scent disperses before it starts working.
- How often it attracts creatures, and how many at a time.
- How many creatures a single Bait attracts before it's used up.
- How many of its creatures may be alive at once.
- The nearest attracted creatures can appear.
- Per biome, the chance and the maximum number of stars on attracted creatures.
- Whether dropped Bait and creature trophies float on water instead of sinking. Bait does not need to float to work.
- Where the "attracted" notice appears on your screen (a personal choice, not set by the server).
Recipes are edited in their own file, generated the first time you run the mod.
Installation
- Install BepInEx for Valheim.
- Install with a mod manager (recommended) so the required dependencies come along automatically, or place
CreatureBait.dllinBepInEx/plugins/manually. It also requires https://thunderstore.io/c/valheim/p/ValheimModding/YamlDotNet/ and https://thunderstore.io/c/valheim/p/ValheimModding/Jotunn/ - Launch once to generate the config and recipe files, then adjust them however you like.
