Crimson Blood
Part of the Scavengers Survival Series for Valheim.
Crimson Blood makes combat feel heavier with local visual blood that reacts to the hit, falls with gravity, lands on surfaces, and leaves a believable aftermath. It does not change damage, health, loot, AI, saves, or multiplayer networking.
New in V0.8.0 — Wounds, Bleeding Trails & Bandaging
- Wounded creatures now leave bleeding trails. A strong enough hit can make animals, monsters, humanoids, bosses, tamed creatures, and the player drip blood as they move.
- Visible wound marks now stay on living creatures and the player at the point of impact for a short time.
- Creatures bleed until they die or despawn.
- Your character keeps bleeding until bandaged. Press G by default to treat the local bleeding trail.
- Bandaging uses 1 Leather Scrap by default. This can be changed or disabled in the config.
- A local bandage sound can play when bleeding is treated.
- Optional local hit sounds have been added when the player is struck by a sword, axe, or arrow.
Bandaging in Crimson Blood treats the mod's cosmetic bleeding trail only. It does not restore health or change combat balance.
What it adds
- Directional blood bursts based on impact direction.
- Falling droplets, pressure streaks, pools, and surface marks.
- Blood that lands on terrain, floors, walls, wooden structures, and steep rocks.
- Grounded death spills instead of floating blood clouds on lethal hits.
- Surface blood that can remain for up to two Valheim in-game days.
- Red blood for living creatures, with black blood for skeletons and ghosts.
- Larger, heavier blood impacts from strong blunt weapons.
- Performance limits, effect pools, render-distance settings, and optional vanilla-blood suppression.
Controls
- G — Bandage yourself and stop your cosmetic bleeding trail. Requires 1 Leather Scrap by default.
- F11 — Write Crimson Blood diagnostics to
BepInEx/LogOutput.log.
- F12 — Clear recent Crimson Blood diagnostic events.
All keys and bandage requirements can be changed in the config file.
Installation
- Install through Thunderstore/r2modman, or install BepInExPack for Valheim manually.
- Place
CrimsonBlood.dll and the supplied assets folder in:
Valheim/BepInEx/plugins/CrimsonBlood/
- Launch Valheim once to create the config file.
The supplied assets folder contains blood textures and optional audio files. If an asset is missing, Crimson Blood safely uses fallback visuals instead.
Notes
Crimson Blood is local-client visual-only. Other players do not need the mod for your blood effects to work, and it does not alter world saves, ZDOs, RPCs, creature health, damage, drops, stamina, or AI.
