Item Stand Rotation
Rotate and move items on wall and floor stands. Preview three-axis placement, flip weapons, sink blades into walls or ground, and fine-tune with live angle and position readouts.Item Stand Rotation
Turn item stands into custom displays. Rotate and slide mounted items to create crossed weapons, mirrored blades, swords planted in the ground, or weapons embedded in a wall.
Item Stand Rotation adds a placement preview and an editor for items on Valheim's vanilla wall and floor item stands.
Features
- Rotate around three axes fixed to the stand.
- Move items along three axes, including into/out of a wall or the ground.
- Preview before committing; cancel to restore the saved placement.
- Edit mounted items without removing them.
- Read live angles and position offsets, with the selected control highlighted yellow.
- Use coarse or fine steps. Save rotation and position separately for each stand.
- Keep walking, jumping, and looking while conflicting actions are captured during editing.
Quick start
- Look at an empty item stand and use the hotbar slot containing a supported item to start its preview. To adjust an already mounted item, look at its stand and press F8.
- Scroll to rotate. Press T to change axis.
- Press G to switch to Move mode, then scroll to slide the item.
- Left-click to save, or right-click / Escape to cancel.
The item stays in your inventory until a new placement is confirmed. Keep the stand itself within reach: its interaction point does not move with the displayed item.
Controls
| Action | Default |
|---|---|
| Edit mounted item | F8 while looking at the stand |
| Switch Rotate / Move | G |
| Cycle X / Y / Z | T |
| Adjust selected axis | Mouse wheel |
| Fine adjustment | Shift + wheel |
| Turn 90 degrees in Rotate mode | F; twice for a half-turn |
| Reset current mode | R: rotation in Rotate, position in Move |
| Save rotation and position | Left-click |
| Cancel and restore | Right-click or Escape |
Rotation steps are 15 degrees, or 1 degree with Shift. Movement steps are 5 cm, or 1 cm with Shift. New editing sessions start in Rotate mode on X.
Walking, jumping, and looking stay available. Inventory, map, chat, combat, sprint, crouch, building, and standard mod shortcuts are captured during the preview. After saving/canceling, release held keys and mouse buttons before using other actions. Losing game focus cancels the preview.
Axes and examples
Axes follow the stand, not the camera or the current direction of the weapon.
| Axis | Wall stand | Floor stand |
|---|---|---|
| X | Into/out of the wall | Up/down through the surface |
| Y | Up/down along the wall | Forward/back along the surface |
| Z | Sideways along the wall | Sideways along the surface |
Move mode slides along these directions; Rotate mode turns around them. X rotation on a wall stand gives the familiar clock-hand motion.
Crossed or mirrored weapons: edit with F8, choose an axis with T, and try F twice for a half-turn. Return to X to adjust the diagonal against the wall.
Sword in the ground: use a floor stand, rotate the blade downward, press G, select X, and slide the blade into the terrain.
Weapon in a wall: rotate the blade toward the wall, switch to Move, and use X for depth. Use Y for height and Z for sideways placement.
R resets only the current mode. To reset everything, press R once in Rotate and once in Move, then confirm.
Installation and updates
Install Item Stand Rotation with Gale, r2modman, or Thunderstore Mod Manager. The required BepInExPack Valheim dependency is declared in the package.
For manual installation, install BepInExPack Valheim first, then copy this ZIP's BepInEx/plugins/StandTurn/StandTurn.dll into your game's matching folder.
Close Valheim before updating. Disable/remove any earlier local StandTurn or Item Stand Rotation package so only one Item Stand Rotation DLL is enabled. Earlier StandTurn rotations and positions are retained. This release preserves the plugin ID and saved-data keys used by the local builds.
Configuration
Settings are created in BepInEx/config/com.keeton.standturn.cfg on first launch. Close the game before editing the file, then restart it.
| Setting | Default | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| EditKey | F8 | Open the mounted-item editor |
| MoveModeKey | G | Toggle Rotate / Move |
| FacingAxisKey | T | Select X / Y / Z |
| FacingKey | F | Quarter-turn in Rotate mode |
| RotationStep | 15 | Degrees per wheel event |
| FineRotationStep | 1 | Degrees with Shift |
| MoveStep | 0.05 | Meters per wheel event |
| FineMoveStep | 0.01 | Meters with Shift |
The older FacingKey/FacingAxisKey names are retained for existing configurations. R, Shift, and mouse save/cancel controls are fixed. Advanced surface-normal settings should normally stay at their defaults. DefaultFacingAxis from older builds is ignored.
Compatibility and limitations
- Supports vanilla wall and floor item stands and items those stands already accept. Does not unlock unsupported items, modify armor stands, or add scaling.
- Editing controls require keyboard and mouse.
- Item movement is visual decoration. The stand, its interaction point, and vanilla removal/drop behavior are not relocated. Items may intentionally intersect terrain or structures.
- Avoid combining with mods that also change item-stand transforms, including Item Stand All Items, unless you have tested the combination.
- The input filter covers standard managed shortcut APIs. Mods with custom input callbacks or direct native polling may still conflict.
- Angle readouts represent the current orientation. Equivalent 3D orientations can use different X/Y/Z values; the display does not change how the item moves.
Multiplayer
Every player who should see or edit the custom placements needs the same Item Stand Rotation version. Unmodded clients show the vanilla pose. There is no version-enforcement handshake or custom server RPC.
Multiplayer synchronization and dedicated-server behavior have not been verified. This is an early public release; multiplayer support is not claimed as tested.
Removing the mod
Disable or remove Item Stand Rotation. Mounted items remain on their stands and display their vanilla placement. Stored custom adjustments are inactive without the mod. To clear a stand's adjustments first, reset both modes and save.
Troubleshooting
- No editor: check that the stand is a supported vanilla stand, within reach, and that you have access to it. Confirm only one Item Stand Rotation DLL is enabled.
- Controls remain captured: release held buttons/modifiers. Cancel the preview if it is still active.
- Unexpected direction: verify the selected axis and mode; axes follow the stand. Use right-click to cancel or R to reset the current mode.
- Missing on another player's screen: check matching mod versions on both clients.
