Hird
Warbands of up to eight. A party list down the left of the screen in the game's own style, invites and leadership on F7, and skill experience shared with whoever is near you - governed by a new Warband skill.Hird
Warbands for Valheim. Group up with up to seven friends, see everyone's health down the side of your screen, and share your skill experience with whoever is fighting beside you.
A hirð was a chieftain's sworn war-band. A warband has a leader, and it lasts as long as they are online.
What You Get
- A warband of up to eight. Invite by typing a name, or pick somebody off the list of who is online.
- A party list on the left of your screen. Everyone's name, everyone's health, and how far away they are. It uses the game's own health bars, so it looks like it belongs.
- Shared experience. Near a warband member, what you earn is shared with them and what they earn comes back to you, in the same skill. Chop wood together and you both get the woodcutting.
- A new Warband skill that rises while you play alongside your warband, and decides how much you share.
Sharing, In One Table
Your Warband level decides how much of your own experience you keep, and how much of everyone else's you pick up.
| Your Warband level | You keep | You get, from each member nearby |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | 50% | 50% |
| 50 | 75% | 75% |
| 100 | 100% | 100% |
One companion already breaks even. Two is a clear gain. At Warband 100 there is no downside left at all: you keep everything of yours and take everything of theirs.
If you are in a warband but nobody is nearby, nothing changes. You keep all your own experience, exactly as if the mod were not installed.
Members have to be within 60 metres to share. Height does not count, so somebody mining below you still counts as beside you.
The Warband skill itself takes roughly five and a half hours of playing together to reach 100 with one companion, or a bit over three hours with a full band. It rises from time spent together, so there is nothing to grind for it.
Using It
Press F7.
- Warband shows who is in it and how they are doing. The leader gets Promote and Remove buttons; everyone gets Leave.
- Invite is a name box and a list of who is online. Inviting somebody when you are not already in a warband creates one, with you leading it.
- Settings moves the party list around and changes its size.
An invitation pops up as a banner at the top of the panel and as a message on screen. It lapses after a minute.
How Warbands End
A warband lasts one session, on purpose:
- Someone who goes offline leaves immediately.
- If the leader goes offline, the warband disbands and everyone is told why.
- A leader who chooses to leave passes the lead on instead.
- A warband down to one person disbands.
Your Warband skill is saved on your character like any other skill. The warband itself is not saved, because it can never outlive its leader's connection anyway.
Install
Everyone needs it, and so does the server.
Someone without Hird simply has no warbands: they cannot be invited and will not see one. Nothing breaks for them or for anybody else.
Works on a dedicated server and on an in-game host. Safe alongside the rest of the GBV mods, and does not need any of them.

The Test Warband
hird_fake 7, or the Settings tab, fills the party list with people who do not exist, so
you can move it around and size it without organising seven friends first. Their health
moves, one is dead, two are out of range and one drops out of contact now and then.
It is entirely local: nothing is sent to the server, no real warband is touched, and no experience changes hands. The panel says Showing a test warband while it is on.
