VargheimFishing

Angler perks for the Vargheim server. The Angler profession uses the game's own Fishing skill (VargheimProfessions 0.6.0+); everyone else is capped at 20, so anyone can fish but it is hard to keep the fish in the bar — an Angler is smooth and steady.

Perks

Level Perk
10 Steady hands — in the Hooked minigame the fish moves slower and your catch bar grows with your level
30 Double catch — 25% chance a landed fish comes with a second one
35 Strong line — reeling and holding a hooked fish cost 30% less stamina
45 Big catch — 25% chance a landed fish is one size bigger
50 Fish sense — "Read the water" in the Professions window marks fish within 80 m on the map for a minute
55 Boat angler — the line reaches 50% further and breaks that much later
100 Master angler — double catch 50%, the fish barely fights

Bait, lures (Reely SpecTackleLure) and modded rods are Angler recipes, gated by tier. The Angler's tier materials (Fish Oil, Pike Glue, Swamp Pitch, Frost Roe, Sea Salt, Glowfish Essence, Magma Fish Oil) go into fish dishes, capes and magic gear — see VargheimProfessions [Supply].

The Vargheim fight ([Minigame] Mode = Vargheim, server-set)

Reel on green, hold on red. The fish in the ring is green while it rests (hold Pull, you gain line), amber when it tenses (GET READY), red while it runs (HOLD! - let go). Pulling on red cracks the line; enough cracks and it snaps. Reeling only gains ground on green.

  • Easy fish are easy, big and rare fish are hard: a perch rests long, runs once and forgives five cracks; a tuna or a ★★★ fish rests short, runs long and often, fakes you out and forgives three. Rests, runs and cracks come from the fish's hook force, size and species personality (calm, darter, erratic, long runs, sinker).
  • Play decides the size: never pull on red = perfect catch, one size bigger, bonus Fishing XP and half your stamina back. One slip keeps the size. Two or more = sloppy, the fish loses a star - the message tells you why.
  • Night and rain: a chance the biter is a size bigger ("A big one!").
  • Forgiving: a crack heals after a clean stretch (Anglers: twice as fast); a lost fish still pays XP for the seconds fought; an empty stamina bar never loses the fish - you just can't pull until it comes back.
  • Stamina: pulling a small fish costs a fraction of vanilla, a big fish the full cost - bring food for big water. Bait decides the species (Hooked's bait rules).
  • Before the hook: "Pike ★★ is nibbling..." so a hard fight is a choice. Fish finder (Angler 10): hold a rod with nothing cast to see what swims within 15 m and the bait each takes. Fish log button in the Professions window: species, count, best size, perfect catches.
  • Sounds: the line creaks while you pull on red, knocks on each crack.

Mode = Hooked keeps Azumatt's bobber-bar minigame (made calmer for Anglers by level). Works without Hooked installed (the Hooked perks then do nothing).

Changelog

  • 1.2.0: the Vargheim fight (reel on green / hold on red) replaces the 1.1.0 tension gauge: fish-based difficulty, stars from play (perfect +1, sloppy -1), night/rain big ones, line healing, escape XP, fresh-catch stamina, fish finder (Angler 10), fish log, nibble tell, sounds, Valheim wood-panel look. Fishing XP per landed fish. Server and clients should both update.
  • 1.1.0: optional Vargheim fishing fight ([Minigame] Mode = Vargheim): line-tension gauge over the game's own reel, no bobber bar; Hooked stays the default. Needs VargheimProfessions 0.7.0.
  • 1.0.1: perk text for the Angler's tier materials.
  • 1.0.0: first release.
