Vargheim — a Ghost Pack server

⚔️ Vargheim Season 2 — pre-registration open

Vargheim is a Ghost Pack community server with a hand-built ruleset: pick three professions and the whole modded economy runs through them; ships over portals; seasons that change what grows and what sails; zone scaling and a season gate so everyone starts the same day. Season 2 is in closed testing now and opens soon. Spots are limited — join the Discord to pre-register. The mod list, sync code and start date go out there first.

VargheimWard

Thor's Blessing: a small Mjölnir statue an admin places that raises a shield dome. Nothing hostile passes it, and you can build beneath it. Goes on the server and on every player's PC.

What it does

  • An admin (devcommands on) finds Thor's Blessing under Misc in the hammer and places it. Nobody else sees it in the hammer, and nobody else can take it down.
  • The statue raises a solid dome, 12 m by default. Enemies and projectiles bounce off it, exactly like the Ashlands shield generator — because it is one, with its fuel need removed and its radius pinned. Creatures don't spawn inside and raids don't start there.
  • Building inside the dome works as normal. It's meant for the community hub, a market, a harbour — a quiet circle the server grants, not something players earn or defend.
  • The ward itself can't be damaged.

The statue model

Out of the box the statue is the Mjölnir from ward_statue.obj beside the DLL (generated by art/gen_statue.py), dressed in vanilla stone, wood and dvergr metal in the shader's triplanar mode. StatueParts can instead assemble a statue from scaled vanilla pieces, or Statue names a vanilla statue (Statue in the config: StatueDeer, StatueHare, StatueCorgi, StatueEvil, StatueSeed or any piece prefab). To use a custom model, put a Unity asset bundle named ward.bundle beside VargheimWard.dll containing a prefab called ward_statue; the mod loads it instead. The bundle only needs to exist on the clients' side to be seen, but ship it in the package so everyone has it.

Settings (digi.vargheim.ward.cfg)

Setting Default What it does
Radius 12 Dome radius in metres
Name / Description Thor's Blessing Hammer and hover text
Statue StatueDeer Vanilla prefab used as the model when there is no ward.bundle
StatueParts (empty) prefab:W,H,D:y[:rotY] entries, ;-separated — the vanilla pieces the statue is built from
StatueScale 1 Scale of the statue model
TextureScale 3 Texture repeats per metre on the statue (higher = finer grain)
StatueMaterials plinth:#5a5651… Colour (and metallic, smoothness) per statue group, ;-separated; or group:prefab to borrow a vanilla material (the default is solid colours: grey stone, gold band and cap, wood handle, iron head)
Resources Stone:10,Wood:5 Build cost (admins only build it)
AdminOnly true Only players with devcommands active can place or remove it
NoSpawns true Also stops creature spawns and raids inside the dome

Edit the config on the server; the piece is created at world load, so changes need a restart.

Compatibility

Needs a game version with the Ashlands shield generator (any 1.0 build). No other dependencies. Works alongside the Vargheim profession pack and everything else in the Season 2 list.

Changelog

  • 0.2.4 — dome radius 12 m by default (was 15). Goes on every player's PC so everyone sees the statue and the dome; only admins (devcommands on) can see it in the hammer, place it or take it down.
  • 0.2.3 — DomeLook setting (Clear / Vanilla / Hidden): Clear drops the dome's heat-haze refraction that smeared the top of the screen.
  • 0.2.2 — fix: on Valheim 1.0 the hammer-hiding patch cast the wrong type, so every player could see and place the ward; it now handles the 1.0 piece table and a non-admin cannot place it at all. Patches apply one at a time with a logged fallback.
  • 0.2.1 — back to the Mjolnir .obj statue (triplanar stone, round plinth, metal band) as the default; the vanilla-parts build stays available via StatueParts.
  • 0.2.0 — statue assembled from vanilla meshes (stone floor plinth tiers, dvergr-metal band and caps, wood-pole handle with dark-wood wraps, stone-wall hammer head), each scaled to size; they keep their own textures, so no more atlas artefacts. StatueParts setting; the .obj route stays as a fallback.
  • 0.1.13 — statue materials: shader noise/rain/snow terms off and plain UV tiling (triplanar + value noise blotched the faces white).
  • 0.1.12 — TextureScale setting (texture repeats per metre on the statue, default 3).
  • 0.1.11 — triangle winding fixed (the statue was drawn inside-out: see-through, unlit); statue materials two-sided.
  • 0.1.10 — the hammer's support highlight (solid blue when hovered) is skipped for the ward.
  • 0.1.9 — no vertex colours on the statue mesh (the piece shader treats them as data; white = blue statue); materials used in the shader's triplanar mode so texturing no longer depends on UVs.
  • 0.1.8 — materials borrowed only from wall/floor pieces whose textures tile (stone wall, dvergr metal, black marble, wood floor, dark wood); fallbacks per group; one-time shader property dump in the log.
  • 0.1.7 — explicit metallic/normal/emission maps on the solid materials (a cleared map reads as fully metallic and mirrored the sky).
  • 0.1.6 — solid materials now sit on the game's Custom/Piece shader with a one-colour texture (Standard is stripped from the game build and rendered nothing).
  • 0.1.5 — statue uses its own solid-colour lit materials (stone grey, gold band, wood, dark iron) instead of borrowed atlas materials, which tiled as a mosaic. Colours are config values.
  • 0.1.4 — untinted vanilla materials: stone plinth, stonecutter ring, wood handle, anvil iron head (the generator metal was black with glow lines; the colour tint rendered blue).
  • 0.1.3 — statue mesh gets box-projected UVs so the stone/wood/iron textures show (0.1.2 rendered flat black).
  • 0.1.2 — renamed Thor's Blessing; statue in real stone/wood/iron (the first build borrowed a snow-cover material and came out translucent blue); generator body hidden; the fuel switch now shows the ward text and takes no bones; dome fix for the int fuel field.
  • 0.1.0 — first release: admin-only piece cloned from the shield generator, endless fuel, pinned radius, no-spawn area, statue model (bundle or vanilla), indestructible, admin-only removal.
