A craft-able utility item that scans for dormant Abominations and locates them on your mini-map. No more endlessly wandering the swamp!
Built from the dying heart of an Abomination, it senses the vibrations of their roots and points you the way
Features
- Equip the sensor in your utility slot for automatic detection.
- Detects dormant Abominations only, so fighting an awake one does not trigger repeated alerts.
- Plays a short beep and sends an expanding green pulse around you when a target is detected.
- Marks detected positions with soft red dots that fade in and out on your minimap.
- Repeats after a 30-second cooldown while a dormant target remains nearby.
- Displays the sensor icon in your equipped-status UI.
- Custom root-bound heart model with iron, rubber, wooden roots and a subtle green glow.
Crafting
Craft at a level 1 forge using:
| Ingredient | Amount |
|---|---|
| Rubber | 10 |
| Iron | 10 |
| Abomination Trophy | 1 |
Rubber can be crafted at a level 1 workbench using 2 Guck and 5 Coal. If SwampCapes is installed, its Rubber is reused. SwampCapes is optional. Normal ingredient discovery applies.
How to use
Equip the Abomination Sensor from your inventory. It occupies the normal utility slot, replacing another utility item such as Wishbone or Megingjord. No manual activation is required, and the sensor is not consumed.
Empty scans stay silent. Unequipping disables detection and clears markers. Re-equipping does not bypass the current cooldown. Dots show positions at detection time, rather than tracking moving creatures. They expire after 15 seconds by default and are not saved on your map. A dot may remain briefly after the creature wakes.
Configuration
Launch once to create BepInEx/config/joshu.abominationsensor.cfg. Close the game before editing.
| Setting | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
| ScanRadius | 100 | Horizontal radius in metres; allowed range 1–128. |
| DetectionCooldownSeconds | 30 | Minimum time between detection alerts. |
| MarkerSeconds | 15 | How long detected positions remain marked. |
| RadarVolume | 0.65 | Beep volume, from 0 to 1. Set 0 to mute. |
The sensor detects only creatures already spawned and loaded by your game. It does not force spawning, load distant areas or wake creatures. Terrain does not block detection. Simulation distance, server limits and streaming affect coverage. Maps must be enabled to display markers. Results and effects are local to the wearer.
Installation
Install through Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman, including the listed dependencies.
For manual installation, install BepInExPack for Valheim and Jotunn, then copy BepInEx/plugins/AbominationSensor/AbominationSensor.dll into your game or mod profile. Keep only one copy of the plugin installed.
When upgrading from a test build, close Valheim and replace its DLL. Existing sensors and configuration retain their identifiers. Unequip and re-equip if needed to refresh the status icon.
Multiplayer
Players handling the custom items should install the mod and dependencies. Install it on the dedicated server hosting these items too. Multiplayer has not been independently verified.
Compatibility
SwampCapes is optional. The mod reuses its SC_Rubber ingredient when installed and supplies Rubber itself otherwise. The sensor prefab identifier is AS_AbominationSensor.
