TrueNorthCompass
An immersive compass that will display your general heading after reading. Perfect for vanilla friendly no-map runs. No HUD or passive feed.True North Compass
Made for the no-map community. True North Compass gives you a way to navigate the world of Valheim without opening a map, while staying honest to the vanilla experience - no HUD overlay, no exact bearings, just a craftable item that will tell you which direction you are looking within 45 degrees of accuracy. No more wondering which side the sky tree you're looking at.
How to use
- Use on hotbar or right-click to activate. Moving your camera while "Reading compass. . ." is on screen will interrupt it. Walking is allowed.
- Craftable at a Forge (5 Bronze + 1 Iron)
- Also sold by Haldor the trader (500G)
- Settings are configurable.
- Can be hung on Item Stands
- Built to support no-map and immersive runs, not replace them
2 Modes (Heading and True North)
Heading Mode (Default)
- Reports your current camera facing as 1 of 8 directions (North, NorthEast, East, etc), not a precise number
- Deliberately general readings to encourage exploration with just enough friction to keep things interesting
- Read time is configurable (0-4 seconds, default 1.5); set to 0 for an instant reading
True North Mode (Old version)
- Use it to pan your view to face north, the same kind of directional turn the boss-stone (Vegvisir) reveal does, just pointed at a fixed compass bearing instead of a boss
- To know which way is north so you don't get too lost, but you still have to work out the rest. For a more vanilla friendly gameplay style.
Requirements
Manual install
- Install BepInExPack for Valheim and Jotunn.
- Copy the whole
TrueNorthCompassfolder (the DLL plus the icon and model files alongside it) intoValheim/BepInEx/plugins/.
Mod managers like r2modman install these automatically.
Multiplayer
Requires all players and the dedicated server to have this mod installed.
The server decides the rules: every setting is synced from the server's config to all players when they join, and only admins can change them in game. In single player, or when you host, your own config is used. It doesn't modify world save data or affect other players directly.
