OreSpreadQoL
Balanced mining QoL that spreads one pickaxe swing's total damage across nearby ore segments. Host-synced, skill-scaled, multiplayer-safe, with Copper through Flametal support.OreSpreadQoL
Author: JoeyBadManners
Version: 1.0.2
OreSpreadQoL is a balanced mining quality-of-life mod for Valheim. Instead of multiplying mining damage, it takes the normal total pickaxe damage from one swing and spreads that damage across nearby sections of a segmented deposit.
The point is to make large deposits less tedious and reduce ugly excavation pits without turning mining into a one-hit vein miner.
Features
- Preserves one swing's total pickaxe damage rather than multiplying it.
- Keeps normal stamina use and tool durability for the swing.
- Optional Pickaxes-skill-based radius scaling.
- Host-controlled gameplay settings using ConditionalConfigSync.
- Works for both host and non-host multiplayer clients.
- Hold Left Alt while swinging to bypass the mod and use vanilla mining for that swing.
- Modern Flametal support is narrowly targeted so normal Tin and Obsidian mining stay vanilla.
Supported resources
OreSpreadQoL has dedicated defaults for:
- Copper deposits
- Large segmented stone deposits
- Muddy scrap piles / Iron
- Silver veins
- Soft Tissue
- Black Marble
- Modern Flametal ore veins (
LeviathanLava) - Other segmented
MineRock5resources through a conservative fallback category
Intentionally vanilla
- Tin
- Obsidian
- Small ordinary rocks
Default spread radii
| Resource | Max radius |
|---|---|
| Copper | 15.0 m |
| Large Stone | 15.0 m |
| Iron / Muddy Scrap | 1.5 m |
| Silver | 4.0 m |
| Soft Tissue | 3.5 m |
| Black Marble | 2.5 m |
| Flametal | 2.0 m |
| Other segmented resources | 1.5 m |
EnableLevelMode is enabled by default. With it enabled, spread radius interpolates from MinDistance (default 1.0 m) at Pickaxes skill 0 to that resource's configured maximum at Pickaxes skill 100.
Balance behavior
If a vanilla swing would deal 30 total pickaxe damage and OreSpreadQoL affects 3 nearby sections, the mod applies roughly 10 damage to each section, not 30 to each.
Your Pickaxes skill still affects the original vanilla swing normally. OreSpreadQoL only redistributes the already-calculated pickaxe damage spatially.
Configuration
Gameplay settings are synchronized with ConditionalConfigSync and are server-controlled. The host/server determines enabled resource categories, radii, Level Mode, and minimum radius.
Two local settings remain client-side:
BypassKey— defaultLeftAltDebugLogging— defaultfalse

Compatibility / design notes
OreSpreadQoL is a clean implementation inspired by the mining-spread concept of PickaxeMaster by MisterySolo. No PickaxeMaster code or binaries are distributed with this package.
OreSpreadQoL does not require the deprecated DrakeMods ServerSync setup. ConditionalConfigSync handles the settings that need to agree between host and clients.

Tested
Version 1.0.0 gameplay was tested on Valheim 0.221.12 in singleplayer and peer-to-peer multiplayer, including mining from a non-host client. Version 1.0.1 is a documentation-only update with no gameplay changes.
